Yes, they do process stuff for dog food, as well as fertilizer.
Isn't there also a tannery in that park too adding to the shitty smells?

And there are also the two fiberglass plants on Mission that have a chemical smell. All in all its a typical heavy industry area with its smells and smoke.

The smoke mostly comes from the seasonal asphalt plants in the area.

It's not always a bad smell. I think it's when they bring in new loads of manure or are doing work in the yards outside. Most of the time it's a non-issue. I've been frequenting the area for 40 years so maybe don't notice it as much.

That smell was nothing compared to the stench from the old packing plants on Marion during their heyday.

I was going to say the same thing. I would have never chosen to live there back then, the smell of death was truly vomit-inducing. Nowadays it's really only the mushroom plant somedays. Even though it stinks, it doesn't make me want to lose my lunch like the packing plants did. Whatever other smells there are in the area, I don't notice them. They aren't very frequent or far-reaching.

I find the smells in the south end of the city (Pembina/Waverley) smell much worse than the area around the mushroom plant. It is very frequent in the summer months and I suspect it is south winds blowing over the dump. I don't know that I would want to drop $1m+ on a house to have that frequent smell - camel ass and garbage.

Do the properties around Brady Landfill have the same caveat on their titles like the areas around the North End Sewer Plant supposedly have regarding smells?

I have been told by more than one person, property in the area of the north end plant now have city caveat's that when you buy a property you acknowledge you may be subject to odors and sounds from the plant.

http://clkapps.winnipeg.ca/DMIS/perm...241126(SM)PD-4

This link is to the ongoing saga of Constanance Popp Chocolatiers (180 Provencher) vs the development next door at 174 Provencher. Read through the timeline of events.

The chocolate lady is being unreasonable and the City has pushed any requirements or modifications re: snow loading onto the 180 Provencher owner.

They (chocolate lady) basically wanted everything to stop, then didnt allow access to their building for inspection. The timeline also shows why we saw delays on site. It sat at foundation stage for a while waiting for chocolate lady to provide access, until the City issues the permits to construct up to one floor. The it sat again waiting for chocolate lady. Then the city issued full permit and the building has carried on.

I do notice that the back of the new building is actually set back from the chocolate shop. Just the front is tight to the other building.

What a dick lol. Refusal to allow inspectors in should waive all your rights in this kind of stuff. Has building been halted again?

No they have full permits to finish the new building. The City said all costs are now on the chocolate shop and they must comply with the bylaw to review the snow loading and make any necessary changes. So they did in fact push it all on the chocolate shop.

The chocolate shop lawyers are saying the new build is not complying with bylaws because of the snow load issue lol. It's actually comical.

I think it the report there are more letters or something from the chocolate shop. But I dont understand the overarching problem they have wiht the new build.

The lawyers must love this. They'll be sucking every penny out of that chocolate shop they can for years lol.

Yea I can't imagine a shop like that would be wildly profitable to the point that they can afford to continue the legal saga for as long as it's been going on.

I wonder if the city will close down the chocolate shop if she doesn't show them that she has addressed the issue....the adjacent building will already be creating a snow shadow on her's.

I recall her opposition in the variance hearings was that they would be covering up the sign she painted on the side of her building that faced the former parking lot.

I half believe that her business is already failing and this is a last ditch effort to extort the developer for cash before bankruptcy hits.

we had to reinforce the roof of Wild Planet for my project on Osborne and it wasn't a big deal at all. Weld some steel to the existing trusses. It took a couple days tops.
