It seems like the southern part of Wonderland was being rebuilt for decades, yet it looks almost the same as before.

Meanwhile, the traffic on Sunningdale gets worse by the minute, and they keep building more stuff, but let's wait until everything slows to a crawl before widening, which will have to happen.

Yes but it's all for sewers, water lines, cables etc. The infrastructure needs to be beefed up to support all the development and planned development in the area.

Yet they aren't beefing up the road capacity at all. One of the rebuilds did add a left turn lane from Wonderland SB to Wharncliffe NB however which was nice. Sucks so many people need to make this stupid turn but I guess once Bradley goes in, it's usage should go down.

City staff (and its consultants) finished the EA study for the Western Road and Sarnia Road intersection improvements. Improvements include new in-boulevard cycling paths on Western and Sarnia within the vicinity of the intersection, new curbs/median on Western, bus bays, longer turning lanes, as well as a complete urban upgrade of Phillip Aziz Ave.

Civic Works Committee voted to not accept the study, and then voted to refer it back to staff due to safety concerns regarding pedestrians. Several councillors want to see a pedestrian scramble (or "Barnes Dance") at this intersection, due to the # of pedestrians at this intersection at peak times. Though I don't have any statistics, I'd agree that it's definitely one of the (if not the) busiest intersections in the city when it comes to pedestrian counts.

A pedestrian scramble is when pedestrians can cross in any-direction (east/west, north/south, diagonally) during their own signal phase.

Though this was before my time lol, I think London used to have at least one in the downtown area (King/Clarence??).

Council will consider the referral at its meeting on April 25.

Yep, I remember the King/Clarence scramble well, back when Wellington Square and London Centre Arcade were popular malls. What they really need to do is extend the bike lanes to wherever it is they end currently, not just at the intersection. I know Sarnia Road is terrible for where the bike lanes end coming down towards the university. As for the upgrade of Philip Aziz Ave, that would be nice to see, but isn't it a little cramped for space there to widen it out any?

Yes I agree. I had a closer look at the EA study, and they are planning to do exactly that. New cycling paths will be added along Sarnia from Sleighthome (where the cycling lanes currently end heading EB) to Western, and along Western from Platts to the entrance into UWO/Brescia (Lambton Dr).

As for Phillip Aziz, it looks like they're gonna make it work somehow lol. It will be widened to include a middle/left-turn lane (so 3 driving lanes total), new sidewalks and cycling paths on both sides, as well as new retaining walls.

This section will be a huge improvement to traffic/bike/pedestrian flow in and out of the area, most days it's backed up well around the corner onto Huron Drive and then the continuous flow in/out of the stadium facilities makes it brutal for anything other than vehicles.

It's tight for 2 cars currently but there is more space that it seems mostly because of the slope and overgrowth on the Aziz house side. If you drive by in the winter you can see at least 10-12 feet on the north side to the fence along Thompson arena, I assume the new retaining wall pictured will start at that current fence line.

What happened to the double-left turn lane for Sarina EB to Western NB? I know that was proposed at one point.

Sure that makes the intersection longer for pedestrians to cross, but I think that would improve safety too with a controlled left turn signal. If they do this + the scramble then both cars and pedestrians won't have any conflict worries (hopefully) but that might make shorter light cycles, meaning you should probably have the double left to get some more cars (and buses!) through the intersection.

Another big construction project happening this year is a "2-lane upgrade" of White Oak Road south of Exeter Rd. The road will close next week and reopen in the fall.

Here are the improvements, as listed from the document:

Complete street improvements including new active transportation connections from Exeter Road to Blakie Road completing the gap in the current area cycling network and a new sidewalk on the west side of White Oak Road connecting to employment lands;
Extension of the sidewalk on the north side of Exeter Road from White Oak Road easterly to connect to the existing sidewalk network;
Extension of the sanitary sewer along White Oak Road to the north side of Exeter Road to provide for future land servicing;
White Oak Road pavement condition improvements;
Improved roadway lighting;
A rebuild of the White Oak Road and Exeter Road intersection including new traffic signals and improvements to meet current accessibility requirements; and
Stormwater management and drainage improvements in the area.

Highbury Ave south of Hamilton Rd to close for day on May 10th for bridge inspection and much needed garbage clean-up. The amount of trash on the side of the road is beyond disgusting and we need the Province and City to start a don't litter education campaign to get people to think before tossing their fast food containers out the car window as they go down the road. I've also seen people drop their dog poop bags out the window on the road when they thought no one was watching.

Would be nice to see some police enforcement of littering laws and people made examples of publicly to get the message across.

Now if only they would get the new computerized traffic light management system they announced a couple of years ago using some of the BRT money installed and operational. The amount of green house gases being emitted because the traffic signals are not sync up and sequenced to allow traffic to flow without hitting every red light is maddening.
