They are both part of the same complex - it will continue to be used.

It's still a convention centre...the whole building is called Canada Place (hotel, convention centre, cruise ship terminal) while the convention centre at Canada Place is called the "Vancouver Convention Centre East Building" and the new expansion is the "VCC West Building". There's an underground passage that links both facilities.

i had a chance to attend a conference at the new convention centre this past weekend. stupid me, didn't bring a camera. but needless to say, it's a spectacular building. we have much to be proud of here. the speakers were all raving about the facilities. the views and floor-to-ceiling glass are spectacular. the escalators leading to the 3rd floor are dramatic.

It has undergone interior renovations and is still a convention and exhibition centre. In fact, the "new" convention centre and the "old" convention centre are considered a single entity: The Vancouver Convention Centre. The "old" convention centre is called the East Building and the "new" convention centre is called the West Building.

EDIT: I was too slow also.

It's a sculpture of an Orca Whale. I asked the people who were putting it up.

We didn't have a t.v. when we immigrated to Canada that year.

Funny to be seeing the wood panels being used on northern projects as well.

The suspended wood ceiling was also being used in the Edmonton Convention Centre as well as YEG arrivals hall

I was more interested in the mechanical system when I was there. Over all there was a comfortable feel to the building.

do you hear the planes in this one? I've heard people complain the rooms under the sails can be loud when a plane takes off on the water there

^ and the planes are going to be much more closer with the new marina being built in front of the facility, it's something I still greatly despite...will ruin the building.

I thought they were tearing the convention centre down after the Olympics were over? It was an "olympic expense", after all...

During the visit I did not hear any aircraft. There was one area that was a concern, an area on the south side above the loading dock. The floor has a harmonic vibration that induces nausea. This was the spot the Australian broadcasting had. You could not stand in the spot for no more that a few minutes.
