I think the engineering to provide a possible future station was to create a level section of track, rather than following the contours of the street. I don't think any actual structures were built as part of the cut and cover tunnels. It's possible there's some sort of structure that allows the removal of a section of the wall, but I doubt that it would be obvious in any images of the construction.

There are no station boxs and AFAIK there are no structural or infrastructure difference fron the rest of the tunnels, only a flat and straight section of track.

My understanding is that if a station would be constructed the existing tunnel roof and wall(s?) would need to be completely removed before the new station structure is constructed.

Hmm, all this time I thought there was a roughed in station box - just the raw station with no mechanical, electrical, etc.

Okay great that's what I was thinking as well. If there were completed station boxes ready to go, we would know about them, or at least Kenneth Chan would.

This CoV document about a 57th station seems to imply it's never going to happen. They had a ballpark $90 million figure back then so maybe 200-300 million now?

And this

Quote:
Affleck said he never got the clarity he sought about what happened with the 57th Avenue station and funds raised for it, but he thinks it’s unlikely to ever be built.

The city said this week it will continue to preserve the space to accommodate a possible 57th Avenue station in the future, “if TransLink includes it in a future plan.”

In the meantime, the $20 million contribution from Onni will be “reserved for a future station,” the city said, or reallocated to other uses if a station is not delivered. But, the city’s statement said, TransLink has no plans to build stations at either 57th or 33rd Avenue.

Also notable from that document that Translink estimates it would take 10 years to build.

The Heather lands discussion should have included a station at 33rd. It could also serve the hospital complex there and QE park, Nat Bailey, VanDusen, etc. The most important additional station for that line and a lost opportunity IMO. All of those venues are PITA parking for the most part.

I vaguely recall discussion about how the whole area is bedrock, just like QE Park - so 57th is at least on the table, but 33rd isn't.

SO many cut corners for the Olympics.

Well nothing is impossible, but yeah the expense would be pretty high. It's too bad.

Just like with Capstan, the only thing that was done that leaves the option of future station is the placement of the power rail. Normally it's on the right side of the track but near 33rd and 57th, there are short stretches of track where the power rail is on the left side.

Does that happen in both directions or just when the train is southbound? It doesn't have anything to do with sections where the tunnels are stacked versus side by side and placement of emergency exits in the tunnel?

That was certainly true for the Capstan Station location but definitely isn't for the 33rd and 57th locations inside the tunnels.

The Compass changes is $507 million (?) with a budget

2025 7.3
2026 67.0
2027 105.2
2028 92.8
2029 61.9
2030 111.4
2031 61.7

Compass Modernization – an account-based Compass system will create opportunities for more personalized payment plans and oferings.

does it show a timeline for when digital compass cards will come out? Being able to use my Apple Watch as a disabled user would drastically improve accessibility for tapping in.

I just want my distance based Skytrain and bus fares. Where are you getting that the Compass card modernization budget is for an account-based system? I can't see that in the infrastructure plan.

I'd like them to stop selling Day Passes as a separate item where you have to choose in advance whether or not your planned trips will be cheaper using them or using individual fares. Day Passes should be implemented as a daily cap on the fares you pay - if you accumulate more than the cost of the Day Pass then you should be charged for the Day Pass and no more.

Making the wristband available for more groups (currently there's only the standard blue and orange versions available) would solve that problem - but they don't seem to be in any hurry to do it (I've asked multiple times).
