I don't know if anyone had mentioned, but the us bank's slide would probably feel funny for the fact that there are a couple of sit backs underneath it that will probably reduce a little the sensation of being literally looking down vertically. I just noticed

I think We are all here grown up people, anyways next is DTLA along with the 2016 World Naked Bike Ride

I drove all the way to the Baldwin Hills.

Great hike, but I should have brought my Nikon.
The new Onni Group Tower will have a good impact...

Downtown LA I think has the best skyline EVER!! I love that especially from this view and from the 1st street bridge our tallest building is in the center and this view in particular, all buildings lead up to the Library tower as if steps to get to the tallest (I'm claiming that USBank logo come down for something smaller . Even the Wilshire grand's position from this angle is right in the center and will somewhat block the USBank tower, but the USB crown is still taller than the WG roof and you won't see no spire from this far away.

Sure there are bigger skylines but man... I love me some LA

By the way... Anyone notice that the most of the tourist postcards for sale on Hollywood blvd and in Santa Monica all either have this view from Baldwin hills with the snow capped mountains behind; or the view from Hollywood looking at DTLA and they are super old... Like '95 old. Someone needs to give the postcards a revamp

I always preferred the view from Hollywood or Ranyon Canyon, but I really start to like the Baldwin Hills view too. (thanks for sharing your way of looking at it)

.. and yes, our skyline is awesome, but we should wait three more years with the postcard, because our beauty will change a lot.

From this vantage point I think that both Oceanwide and Circa will block the sight of the projects that you mentioned

You are right, these two projects will have a big impact from this vantage point. 801 & 888 Olive Street might just disappear..

But I would say Circa is not big enough to block Onni's taller tower.
Even Oceanwide has only one taller tower.. the other two are 100 feet shorter.

^ brigham, when I saw your heading I immediately thought of something south of olympic, in the main section of LA live where the 6 message board towers are located. The hotel on the north side of olympic doesn't really seem like it should be considered part of LA live. but ymmv & fwiw. Regardless, I hope the store does well in its new location.

If buildings like the Clark and the Embassy sit there for years rotting, why can't we demand better enforcement of codes?

The 43-story condo tower at 8th/Fig will take up the entire parking lot on the western half of the block. What a shame.

I don't see the issue with that. Don't we all want to get rid of surface parking lots?

^ That is a bit of a disappointment, as that lot can easily hold two towers. Another interesting takeaway from that article is that Mitsui Fudosan also owns the parking lot at 8th and Grand/Hope, with plans for condos, hotels or both. That would be the final surface lot at 8th and Grand and hopefully the low-rise parking structure at 8th and Hope. If they were to combine those two lots and build a combined hotel/condo development, you could easily get something there in the 40-50 story range, especially considering that it can be considered transit oriented, given it's one block from the Metro/7th stop.

Looking at some of their projects in NY, it seems like they have good architectural bones, though most of those seem to be projects that were already designed before they bought into them. Hopefully they continue that type of design acumen (200 Amsterdam, 55 Hudson Yards).

Even if it doesn't take up the whole lot, odds are with that footprint that most of it will be podium while the tower will rise on the corner, not directly across the street from Fig @ 7th. So basically this is solidifying the gap in our skyline where Fig @ 7th is now for a long time.

Shame indeed.

Would love to see a tower fill in the grassy lot between Fig@7th and the parking structure behind it (abutting the 110fwy).

That would take care of this block's skyline-gap, as well.

All of this hate for a building that doesn't even have a rendering/design yet.

Lets reel it back in a bit. Breathe. LOL.

Everyone is assuming that a "40 something story building + large property = skinny tower with a massive podium". Well minus the podium, that might actually be what goes up here based off of the last "proposal", but its not a big deal.

There was a proposal a few years ago ( not sure if it were real or not, no one really knew if it was legit) but the stats were the same and took up the same footprint. The genuine consensus was that everyone for the most part liked the look of that proposal. I would expect something of similar design to go here.

(I'm not in the mood to dig through the threads on this site but i found this link via google, just scroll halfway down to see the proposal)

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=147965&page=77

The original "proposal" was 45 floors but looks pretty tall. Everyone back then had the same complaints "horrible use of land, blah blah blah" and someone actually complained about the green space attached but it is what it is. looking at the bigger picture for downtown. This is a plus.
