Seems cheaper than building another parking level just for bicycles.

Yeah, lower upfront cost, but higher ongoing costs for the future owners.

On the bright side it's not totally brand new technology.

There's that big basket!

I guess it would also reduce theft.

would the owners be responsible for the bike storage if it's in a public area?

are the owners responsible for all the public space gardens etc? curious as I have no idea how it all works.

That system would be enough for me to pass buying in that project. Just one more thing for Westbank to mess up and wash their hands of.

Each silo costs about $1.5 million dollars. I guess the mechanical parts would be a smaller section of that and I'm assuming that in the 10-15 year period it would be motors and other parts of the system that would need servicing.

Could be covered by cost-sharing agreements - and we know that those often end up in lawsuits.

One would have to be insane to buy into Oakridge, prices aside.

This project is ambitious, there is no way I would trust Westbank to develop this without a myriad of horrendous issues, particularly given their recent history.

From Trish Jewison twitter posted today.

Looks like the tower on 41st Ave is starting to rise.

Based on that picture, I can't help thinking this might be under construction. Any mods available to change the status?

What a massive site with 8 cranes working. It would look impressive if all cranes would be identical.

I look forward to seeing how they will rebuild the shopping centre portion itself while running businesses at the same time.

I thought everything was closed except Crate & Barrel and some medical offices?

I hadn't realized that Tower 4 on 41st is skewed to the street grid.
The aerial also shows how they are building many more towers simultaneously than Brentwood did
...but Brentwood had a better centralized site to work with.
Oakridge will have a lousy "front door" when finished.

It's in the right place, but why does the footprint of the building under construction not resemble the footprint of Tower 4?

They build the main tower and the terraces get latched onto it?

That was my guess.
I figure that if you took a close look, there would be rebar poking out the ends of the slabs to extend the floorplates (?) across an area that's currently an access road.
I also think the wtower may be skinnie than the top floorplate we can see in that pic (which may include a bit of terrace on the east side).

Everything is closed as you indicated. I'm just surprised the centre part of the old mall is still standing. I was hoping that would be demoed much sooner now and be redeveloped much sooner. Since the entire centre structure of the mall where the barrels glass roofs are completely empty now. They could and should get that portion done sooner now to take advantage of the vacated space. The OG plan was for that centre part of the mall to continue to operate during construction but now it is closed so hopefully that phase will be fast-forwarded.

But you assume a lot of demo work has to be done inside the mall before they are ready to demolish the structure.

Our teams at Phase 1 North of the Oakridge Redevelopment are hard at work preparing for the next concrete pour slated for the project.
The concrete pour will be for one of the largest core pads on the project for tower four. Just shy of four meters in depth, holding four elevators pits and a cast in place sump, the core will require about 5,500 cubic meters of concrete.
