A person can get a round-trip base fare from calgary-phoenix (mesa) for 127.00 on New Leaf. Cheap cheap. Just need to find a cheap flight to Calgary. (Airmiles or other travel points).

I heard that Saskatoon's new downtown highrise correctional facility will be opening in the near future... only one peculiar thing about it; it's signage says 'Holiday Inn and Suites'.

New Leaf also has the cheap Mesa (Phoenix) flights from Edmonton. Keep in mind though you will be at the Mesa Gateway airport when you land and not the main airport, SkyHarbour. Last time I was at Gateway there was minimal in terms of rental car counters so if you need one book ahead. Also being far outside the main Phoenix area you might be better off booking a shuttle to your final destination than trying to catch a cab.

WestJet is also flying to their weird underserved airport in in Phoenix with about the same timing and same price as New Leaf. If you can WestJet for the same price as New Leaf, what is the better way to go.

Hey gang!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Just wondering what we think will be some major announcements for YQR in 2017?

The new taxiway 'C' is pretty well complete. Crews are still chugging along with regards to airport infrastructure and expansion on the north side. 2018 ought to be imbued with airport announcements and activity. The last i heard is that terminal expansion is still to commence in '18 as well. (I/we will know more about that come April.)

I checked this, because I wasn't aware it was true - but it depends on where you fly from. The Regina and Saskatoon flights are to PHX (Phoenix Sky Harbor International), which is the major Phoenix airport, but some flights are to AZA Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport - only from Calgary and Edmonton, though.

I guess the Regina Airport had another record year for 2016! Year-over-year, YQR had 7000 more pax than in '15. That's still pretty good, considering YQR lost service to the U.S. and that there is likely even more trans-border bleeding to U.S. locales via Minot.

My concern would be that they become complacent as a result of these numbers, when they should be beating the bushes to replace that US service.

From all I've seen and heard, they are not at all complacent.

Saskatoon had 8,903 more passengers in 2016 compared to 2015. I believe Sask airports will continue to climb as the worst may be over as far as the economy goes.

So happy about both airports passenger growth!

Ps. I can't WAIT to see what the expansion will look like for YQR!!!!!!!!

And on another note, BOO to New Leaf! Such a disappointment on that end.

The general economic fundamentals might be improving, but there could be aftershocks caused by wage freezes/rollbacks if the government goes down that road. Even if the economy picks up, there may be a consumer spending pull-back.

Would it not help restore those flights having U.S customs in place or is it that you need the flights to make the U.S customs there viable? Could it be the plan to secure an American carrier AND launch U.S customs at the same time?

Do you think it would be viable for USCBP officers to be set up at our two airports? Even if we had a couple of extra flights, it doesn't seem like it would make sense economically to me anyway.
