Is there an official website for this one? Didn't see anything on Onni's.

I'd never heard of the 590' version before but color me not surprised if it got chopped.

Are they actual podium units are just a nicer looking false facade?

Actual units. Looks like it'd start on the 3rd floor as colemonkee postulated.

Per Urbanize LA:

Quote:
The tower, which has a contemporary look similar to Onni's other Downtown towers, takes the rare step of fully masking its above-grade parking - something which is encouraged, but not required, under the Downtown Design Guidelines. Habitable spaces and residential units are planned along the exterior of the garage, fully obscuring it from view along both Olympic and Hill.

The first one is from the SCEA filed with the city and is the one approved. Not sure where the second rendering is from.

760. That's what was filed with the city. Plus if you look on Urbanize, the original concept was shorter before they added 12 stories.

Unfortunately, I think the shorter plans are the most recent ones. They are dated from mid-2022 on Zimas, while the original, taller, plans are dated from 2019. Additionally, the shorter plans are marked as approved.

The approved plans state that the building will be 593.83 ft. tall, with 54 levels including mechanical.

I was really looking forward to seeing the taller, promised version of the tower rising on the skyline. This is still a skyscraper and will still make some mark on the skyline, but probably only from the south and east.

It's still better than nothing. It will be the 22nd tallest tower in LA, and the 17th tallest downtown.

The hits keep coming for the Oceanwide Plaza project in Downtown Los Angeles, but this time their repercussions could go beyond the property itself, with its developer facing a crucial deadline Monday that could impact the future of the company. Earlier this month, China Oceanwide Holdings Ltd., the parent company of project developer Oceanwide Plaza LLC, that Lendlease U.S. Construction, the former general contractor on the Oceanwide Plaza project, filed a statutory declaration demanding approximately $28.4M Lendlease says it is owed by Oceanwide.

In its filing with Hong Kong regulatory officials, Oceanwide told shareholders that Lendlease gave it up to three weeks from the July 10 filing date — July 31 — to pay. If the debt isn't cleared, Oceanwide said Lendlease may file a winding-up petition, an action that could ultimately force a liquidation, a winding down of the company and the sale of assets, in order to get paid. Lendlease exited the project in 2021.

It isn't clear exactly where the $28.4M figure comes from, but Oceanwide’s announcement refers to both a 2021 arbitration judgment that found Oceanwide owed Lendlease about $42.6M and a subsequent agreement to pay off that debt in installments.

The announcement from Oceanwide is a reminder that financial troubles are still unfolding around the site of the incomplete project in which Oceanwide invested more than $1B and which could now be sold at auction as soon as next month. Oceanwide had previously said both that it was in talks to sell the project and was speaking with lenders to get financing to complete the project. It anticipated it would take upward of $1B to complete Oceanwide Plaza.

Typical LA skyscrapers, get promised something spectacular only to have its height chopped and get a watered down version. Sucks

That’s not a LA thing. That happens in every city. Actually the last few towers are the size of their initial height.

Better than nothing, sure, but the USA is arguably the world's f*cking superpower and Los Angeles is one of the largest cities in the Americas.

When did this happen and where is the official source? Every article about this building states 760 feet and 60 floors.

Onni let us down if so...

The plans I see on the city's website say 760' above grade and 60 stories. Where are you seeing this?

Filed and signed by the city on 5/6/2022 under Elevations. The Title/Cover Sheet corroborates a total of 51 floors.

Elevations:

Title/Cover Sheet:

I hope these are wrong, but they are the most recent documents approved for the building.

Why does the project description still say this?

Quote:
DEMOLITION OF SURFACE PARKING LOT/CONSTRUCTION OF A 60-STORY TOWER WITH 700 RESIDENTIAL DWELLING UNITS AND 15,000 SF OF COMMERCIAL USES WITH A TOTAL OF 657,943 SF OF FLOOR AREA AND 1075 PARKING SPACES
If true though:

51 floors and not even 54? Yikes, I wonder if that's counting mechanical. ~600 feet is at least still somewhat decent I just hope they don't shorten it more.

Let's hope Mitsui doesn't also get chopped.

Seems Angels Landing also may not happen anymore due to the Adjaye scandal and 1045 Olive is a dark horse. Was really looking forward to more skyscrapers downtown...

Bloc Tower maybe?

That's the height from sea level. The first floor is marked at 250 ft.
