Oh yes. I knew Dr. Sowers. There's a name I haven't recollected in a long time.

Random, but anybody notice the Beltline map looks sort of like the outline of a human heart? The northwest trail and all of its spurs being the aorta. Seeing all this come together is pretty cool. It seems like it was taking forever but now it's happening all at once.

There is still a "ton" of the most complicated BeltLine work to do from the NE across to the Mid West and a good chunk on the South side. If completed in 5 to 6 years it will be a near miracle.

Here is Piedmont Park from Park Dr. 1st looking south and with the parking lot in far background. This is the point where the BeltLine diverges from the Right of Way. 2ed is looking north and you can see the BeltLine diverging more into the park and it converges on the Park tail in the far background. With the Right of Way clearly following on a higher elevation just outside of the park.

Does anyone know if there are plans for the Park Tavern parking lot now that the beltline is set to come through there finally.

I feel like either they should get rid of the parking lot, or put the parking underneath and have grass on top of the deck so it looks like seamlessly integrated to the park.

It would be tragic if they kept that parking lot there.

Thanks for the photos, Julien. I was just wondering how it was going over there.

Took a look today and it is still open. Hard to tell until they start working in this area.

Finishing touches on this short section that opens first week in Nov.

Incredibly nervous about the fate of the piedmont park carriage trail in all this, probably the most beautiful tree-covered pathway I've experienced in the city.

Has anyone gotten a sense of the scale of construction they are doing there apart from replacing the asphalt with concrete? Fingers crossed that the beautiful tree canopy makes it out unscathed.

Worshester Dr looking south where the BeltLine east towards the right of way.

Looking under Worshester Dr north and Piedmont path asphalt removed for concrete.

"Polishing up" for next weeks opening.

Updated Beltline language confirms the plan is for grass between the rails of the light rail.

"The light rail corridor will have grass between the rails, landscaping and many access points to safely cross from one side of the BeltLine to the other. In short, it will fit into the existing landscape without hindering access to neighborhoods and destinations along the BeltLine."

It is my belief that the East Side Beltline rail is going to blow a lot of people's expectations out of the water. Marta has learned a lot from the public reception and traffic study/ridership of the initial streetcar loop, and are not looking to make the same mistakes. (I know marta did not build the streetcar, but they inherited it.)

Here is Piedmont trail (north end) asphalt removed. Workers were on Beltline right of way so I was able to slip in a few feet.

That is the link I'm excited about. Piedmont Park (soon Armour yard) to West End and up to the West Side with very limited car interface. The loop will be more connected than it is disconnected once that piece is done.
