Well, have you had your venue-specific training yet ? We get a tour of the facility, haha. Looks cute inside, I have to say.

It's all about the money and when it comes to the Olympics, and all other professional sports, it's about the money. And that means television broadcast rights. To those who pony up the bucks, not only go the spoils but also the right to do pretty much whatever the hell they want. NBC wants there to be as many eyeballs as possible on the idiot box, so they schedule broadcasts accordingly. Thus, prime time it is--even if it's tape delayed.

As promised, photo taken by me. As you an see there are mutliple pipe that are being welded together into a camp fire like design. Surprised by the secercy of it, they've even tarped the top of it to stop peering eyes. Of course that tarp could be solely to sheild the workers from the rain while they work on it.

Maybe it's a central flame and a flame on each leg for each of the four host First Nations...

Just a quick update, and a disappointing one at that.
The giant raindrop has been removed at the request of NBC as it was in their way for panoramic shots. It will return after the games.

What? They actually did that? What a pity. I like the raindrop and I think it would be a good foreground decoration to the North Shore view.

Makes sense. But they better put it back after.

They should put it someplace else temporarily, where people can actually get to it during the games, because it is really cool.

Everytime I've been past it there have been people touching it or getting their picture taken with it. It's simple, but amazing.

NBC should bear the full cost of removal and re installation elsewhere.

There's a lot of commecial space around the perimeter of the centre...does anyone know who wants to move in?

I know a Beard Papa's will be moving in around the perimeter, and there will be two large restaurants at Jack Poole Plaza. I would imagine that most of the retail space would be occupied by restaurants, and perhaps some offices, but I don't see retailers surviving there.

That's what I thought as well...the Four First Host Nations are represented by the slanted logs while the centre upright vertical log represents Canada....it sort of looks like a teepee or a campfire.

Great, they have the globe thing back at the Convention Centre. I wonder why they took it off in a hurry after the opening week last year?

http://www.vancouverconventioncentre...goes-platinum/

The Vancouver Convention Centre is proud to announce that its iconic West building, opened in April 2009, has been awarded LEED® Platinum certification for new construction by the Canada Green Building Council. Platinum is the highest level of LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

I find this weird, they are only using green screens in their studio.
