...The hardest sell for me is the relocation of three of the existing city fire stations (especially the one on Botsford Street, which is nearly brand new).
Two of the three "replacement" stations are already in dire need of replacement (both were built in the 1960s). The other one is very poorly located for access, space requirements, traffic, too small, and more. But hey, a former city manager owned the property when that was decided in the mid-2000s

But that third replacement would also be at the end of the 15 year plan. Which would mean that at least the station would be over 30 years old at that point (but still not at the end of it's designed life of course).

I mean hey, the way growth is going, in 15 years it may be necessary to have a 7th station and that one could just stay in place with the targeted move becoming an addition

There is one more firefighter per day today than there was in 1974 so there is a lot of catching up to do.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned/answered, but does anyone know what is being developed on the former Atlantic Baptist College site on Salisbury Road? The entire site has been fenced off and is being redeveloped. The site is next to Spencer Nursing Home.

I hate AI (as an information worker, I see the writing on the wall in terms of future employability), but, with the proper search terms in the AI engine, I came up with this:

Quote:
The former Atlantic Baptist College site on Salisbury Road in Moncton is a significant development area, with plans including the construction of a provincial youth mental health treatment center and a 59-acre residential and smart home development. The provincial youth center is designed to provide specialized care for youth aged 12-18, with construction expected to be completed by 2026. Meanwhile, Flourish Development Group has plans for a 59-acre project on the site, aiming to create a residential community featuring smart mobile homes.

Provincial Youth Treatment Centre

- Location: The former Atlantic Baptist College site on Salisbury Road has been selected as the location for a new provincial youth treatment center.
- Purpose: The center will serve youth aged 12 to 18, offering specialized treatment for their mental health needs in a more home-like environment.
- Status: Design work began in early 2023, with construction anticipated to conclude in 2026.

Flourish Development Group Project

- Location: Flourish Development Group is planning a 59-acre development on the former site at 779 Salisbury Road.
- Project Type: This development aims to create a new residential experience, potentially including smart mobile homes.
- Current Status: As a new development, updates are expected to be provided by the developer as the project progresses.

Thank you very much!

My curiosity is both sated and piqued at the answer, which is fascinating. It appears they’ve avoided the NIMBY issue by the youth centre by creating their own set of backyards!

And is not the “…aims to create a new residential experience” equally interesting? How many residential “experiences” are there? And who is the experience for?

And “As a new development, updates are expected to be provided by the developer as the project progresses” kinda sounds like they don’t know — they’re making it up as they go along!

…OR they don’t want to be specific until they’ve actually built them to avoid pesky neighbor opinions.

I'm fairly certain I'm not imagining this, but wasn't there a rumor of a paired condo/apartment towers planned near the casino?

Ah that's a shame. Thank you. It would be nice if Moncton started having multinodal growth, but I am satisfied that Infinity is guaranteed. Especially with the disappointment of St. Bernard as well.

There is radio silence right now, but, that doesn't necessarily mean that nothing is going to happen here.

The project may be downsized, but may still be substantive. These are the same people as behind the Franklyn Yard development. Magnetic Hill has become a growth node. I think this will continue.

Developers play the long game. We just all have to be patient.

HPD has 615 sworn officers and 321 civilian members for a total staffing level of 936 people according to Wkipedia.

Anyone know the numbers for the Codiac RCMP detachment?

Codiac RCMP is notoriously understaffed.

Currently 153 officers with a plan to increase to 188. There are also 52 civilian employees.

The building costs therefore seem roughly proportionate.

Somebody posted this on a Facebook group today for a comparison since the new bridge was built. I thought this was interesting. Some people are complaining (of course) that the photos are not taken from the same spot and so trickery must be involved, but you don't need a potamology degree to clearly see that the river has been widening substantially. It is also noticeable in the Chateau Moncton area (although I don't have photo evidence.) The 3 Sisters creeping in on the left is also cool to see.

It'll be a while before the river width approaches the old dump, but eventually it'll happen.

The Gunningsville Bridge is still a choke point. There is still some room for further widening, but, it will never regain it's former grandeur,

There are still substantial chunks of grass falling into the river as erosion continues. I'm no expert so I don't know how much wider the river will get, but as of now the widening is still happening.

I'm sure they can do something to mitigate it if it approaches the dump. If/when we see the ball fields relocated, we'll know they aren't too worried about it.
