The two huge elms at Officers Square that were kept during the reconstruction are dead or dying. That really sucks. It will take a life time to get trees that size again. I don't want to be that person, but, I think the construction may have killed them. But there are many other large old elms around the city that are dead or dying too.

Terrible loss. Inoculation is cheaper than cutting them down, but of course it was too expensive to do. The elm is going the way of the chestnut.

Reading further on Elm trees if seems that they are very adaptable to construction. I think they may have just been struck by the disease. It takes decades to grow them to that size. Very very sad.

A quote from Richard Hall, a worker from the forestry dept. from the Daily Gleaner in Sept 2023:

"The city still has 100 or so very old specimens in the city centre and Devon on the north side that are treated every three years with a fungicide, but even that doesn’t work when infected roots intertwine, Hall says...."

Appears Good Life Fitness will be setting up shop at the Corbett Centre taking over the former BB& B/Rooms & Spaces unit. It is now listed on Rio Can's website.

I assume this would mean the GoodLife Fitness Centre at Uptown would be leaving that facility for the unit at Corbett

Also listed is Philthy Philly's Cheesesteak and Poutinerie

According to the agenda for Monday’s city council meeting Lemont House is being sold to State Street Properties for $1000.

Interesting. They have a bit of a mixed portfolio mostly residential rentals but also some retail. I assume that this would be retail but perhaps the upper levels could be residential.

City will just be happy to have this off their plate.

They have developed some of the more higher end developments downtown in the past several years. Will be interesting to see what they have planned for this property

I see RioCan now removed GoodLife Fitness and replaced it with “Leased Space”.

Apparently staff at GoodLife Fitness have no idea about a move or new location here.
