Question 1st Ave N & Broad

Does anyone know what is being built on the NE corner of 1st Ave N & Broad Street? Great to see something happening on that property.

Two 4-storey rental buildings proposed at Canterbury Park. More here:

Great to see rental being developed here, but the shift away from mixed-use at this site is unfortunate. And the current design of the ground-floor residential isn't great.

Somewhat unfortunate, but not really that unexpected. There is so much dead commercial space around right now I can't imagine it being nothing but a money sink hole developing any in the core right now.

The design as you say, is not really that inspiring. The side elevations look okay, but you put it all together and it doesn't add up very nicely. The first iterations turned out pretty good though, so I'm hopeful.

Regina council reverses course, rejects mandatory sprinklers in new residential construction

Councillors voted 9 to 1 to reject the motion, only councillor behind push voted in support
The Question is who’s on the Executive Council sounds like a bunch of idiots

Area Regina needs density and not urban sprawl

Councillors voted 9 to 1 to reject the motion, only councillor behind push voted in support was Landon Mohl who worked as a sprinkler fitter and pipefitter and was the business manager for the pipefitter and sprinkler fitter union before becoming a councillor.

Fixed

Mohl should have excused himself from the debate and vote because of that huge conflict of interest but of course he didn't and the fucking twat was the only one who voted for the motion.

At least it has underground rather than first floor parking.

The fact that even wealthy people who can blow money on every option in their new homes are not putting in sprinklers tells you that their utility is limited. I wonder if you would even get much a of discount on your fire insurance, given the potential claims from sprinkler malfunctions/water damage. I read that sprinklers can start malfunctioning in about 20 years.

older homes seem like the main fire risk. Multi-family buildings are completely different for several reasons.

This from Saskatoon Home Builders: For ground-oriented homes, and especially for detached housing, there are other fire safety measures that are much
less expensive, much more effective, and that have fewer potential unintended negative consequences (like water damage). Smoke alarms, for
example, are one of the most important measures in saving lives, and they do so at a fraction of the cost of sprinklers.

Zachidniak owns a solar company and is the biggest voice on council for solar.
It seems that in the past that a lot of councilors and hopeful councilors in elections were real estate agents or had a direct connection to land development or construction. I remember looking at it a long time ago and it was sort of shocking to me. Since that time, nothing in municipal politics surprises me. I will say that this latest move by Mohl was even more blatant than usual though.

Is this to replace Pioneer Village? The SHA has been moving people out of there for years because of mold issues. Or are we going to pay for Extendicare to have a new building for private profit?

Eden Care is shutting down a wing at 1925 5th Ave N. The residents are being moved all over the city into LTC and laying off a bunch of staff. Without trying to doxx myself, I had an interaction with a resident who was to be moved and she said she would rather die than move. Truly heartbreaking. LTC should be run by the SHA. They had to take over Parkside during the pandemic since Extendicare shit the bed. They're often referred to as "Pretend-to-care" in healthcare circles.

I'd love to see a nice, modern replacement for Pioneer Village. Even that location is great, though not nearly as nice since they cut down a few dozen trees for a parking lot for Government House.

And what about former mayor Fiacco? His family had a lot of Harbour Landing land for development years ago.
