I hadn't been aware until last evening that the Yaletown Roundhouse, also in the pic, is going to be Casa Italia (the Italian pavilion) during the Games.

Will be seeing the 'cloud dance' troup from taiwan tonight, brought here courtesy of the cultural olympiad.

I looked at the cultural olympiad program - there is a lot of stuff happening, well into March!

Why can't I find that pic on the Global Air Photos website?
I don't see any 2010 pics at all.

Awesome thread - keep up the good work forumers.

Does anybody know what CP Rail is doing at the railyards behind Waterfront Station? There are a large number of seemingly vintage cars linked up, connecting to a big corporate tent set-up.

Also, for the iphone enthusiasts in this group, the VANOC 2010 iphone app is really well done - with venues, schedules, free stuff, etc etc. I really wouldn't get lost downtown without it.

Yea. Good question. I've seen a couple 2010 photos in the forum, yet I can't figure out where on the globalair website they came from. Anyone have a link? Would love to see more pics.

Here is a link to a page with extensive archives from 1982 to 2010: http://www.globalairphotos.com/images/bc/vancouver/

I love looking at the older (but not that old) photos. They really blow your mind becuase they demonstrate just how much development Vancouver has undergone in such a short period of time. For instance, in the 1982 folder, you can see train boxcars unloading their supplies on the now trendy restaurant patios of Hamilton Street!

Really? Gee I had no idea. What, do you think I'm some sort of moron?
I was simply stating that in regards to the road closures and parking restrictions, which most have now taken effect, and the fact the media keeps saying what a hell-raising experience it is trying to get around in this city and I was saying it's not necessarily that bad. When the Olympics actually start I'm sure I'll have something different to say on the matter.

Thanks. Every photo update seems to show more changes. Amazing that one year can make a noticeable difference, at least to us locals.

The long awaited Vancouver 2010 Simpsons episode....

Season 21, Episode 12 – Airs: 2/14/2010
"Boy Meets Curl"

After discovering their love of curling Marge and Homer try out for the Olympic team and actually make it to the 2010 Vancouver Games. Meanwhile, in Vancouver, Lisa develops an addiction to collecting Olympic pins.

It looks like there's going to be a lot of portrayal of Vancouver!

i walked past today was going to take a pic but never did - looks like the front street windows walls are completely demolished - not very close to openign at all

downtown was psycho busy they should robson down sooner it was hard to walk down the street

the mint money house things has really cool videos in the windows they used the windows as the screen or something very cool looking lots of people stopped to look at them

the library has anyone been inside the atrium they have two cool interactive things - one is 4 video screens that show whats going on in teh atrium basically and its all artsy and the other is you can make some kind of plane type thing that gets sucked up into a tube and shot out at the top of the strium and than floats down into a giant net over the library entrance - could stand there for hours watching it

^ the Olympic Store at HBC is likely too small for the crowds that have yet to come...traditionally, the main Olympic Store is anywhere from 50-100% larger.
