I'm actually super excited about this one, so it's nice to see it going up. I'm hopeful that it'll draw the eye away from the horrid Andaz nearby. *fingers crossed*

I like how it will form a kind of step up to the great wall. It will be very nice to have some texture in the market skyline.

I'll take anything that will at least partially block that precast wall.

Definitely going to be a unique building for the area.

Yeah i'm definitely excited to see how the York Street Facade is gonna look. the Step up could be super interesting and kind of unique for Ottawa. The George St facade on the other hand, I dont have high hopes for. It looks very boring and massive, not enough step backs...very Ottawa.

Still curious what their solution will be for the entrance on George Street.

The constant crowd of homeless at your front door will be quite a hard selling point for "Luxury" apartments and condos.

What’s the deal with that? Is the shelter moving to vanier or not?

It's been approved, but construction hasn't started yet. They'll be neighbours for at least three years at this rate. Probably more.

and unless i'm mistaken the plan is to move certain services but not to completely close the George St location.

Yes they are not closing the current location. As for a solution to the entrance I don't think there is one. 160 George is directly across the street and seems to have people doing drugs right in front of it on a regular basis and it's fairly luxurious and mostly older people as well. There are also a lot of condos just on the other side of Cumberland with a new block going up. On the other side of Rideau there is the wall of Claridge in front of a shelter that many said would be a problem for developing that area or wouldn't last once that many well heeled residents arrived. Having both entrances on York street and a blank wall where they put the gym or whatever on George street seems possible as a "solution".

It also looks like the entrance is located at the west corner which is the furthest away from the Salvation army. if you had a 24h security guard, It might be enough to convince some people to move in.

I believe the shelter aspect will move in full, but yes, as per YOWetal, they will remain in the building to offer other services.

Security guard wouldn't be able to do anything about bodies outside the building. Residents will be climbing over tents to get out the door by the time this is built.

Freudian slip. They aren't moving on but might in. Or I guess you meant tenants moving in. And yes I think they would be able to rent out as it's the day in day out that gets to residents living there so not as troublesome when you first see it.

Yes I meant convincing people to rent in that building and therefore moving in.

Hopefully it's done well with quality materials so it can positively-ish distract from some pretty terrible designs in that area.
