I'm not sure on the legality in Texas, but when I was in a student apartment complex, we had neighbors fully not in school but renting the rooms. The leases were per room, but there were a few families who'd just insist on being kept together. I think it had something to do with housing discrimination, even though the place was heavily marketed and set up for students.

So it's possible that these could become more of a choice for those willing to jump through the leasing hoops, but yeah fully think West Campus could be way more vibrant if these towers weren't just for students. As far as I know though, the demand to house UT students is still outmatching whats being built so we'd need a greater surplus in the area I think.

This mid-rise sure looks a lot taller driving westbound on MLK. I assume it's because of the higher terrain in the area. Anyways, got a quick video of it:

UT's west campus region (like downtown) looks so much different than just a mere decade ago. When all throughout the 90s-2000s there was hardly any development at all, as far as mid/high-rises go.

Thanks for grabbing these West Campus videos. Great to see these from a drone perspective. Really looks like a small city of it's own in these shots.

Well at least we have a new visual example to define "value engineering."

This is truly one of the ugliest buildings I've ever seen. The architect/developer should be ashamed....what a stain...eeeesh.

It's ugly, but it almost has like a weird brutalist or like industrial vibe going? I don't know such a weird building.

Ugly buildings are bound to happen but man this thing almost makes me want to infer malicious intent on the part of the architect developer. It's in a very prominent position too and will be viewable from a significant part of campus. Tragic.

It looks like a piece of battleship hull, or maybe a submarine conning tower.

I thought the Grand Hyatt was bad for being a giant wall - this one takes the cake
