It says Tien Sher's first highrise - so that suggests they'll build it themselves rather than selling the project to another developer - but yeah, if they are a small company, they'll need financial backers.

It's good to see the developer came out and tell the public that the project is still on.

The recent construction of the modular homes on the site is most definitely a setback though...this project was supposed to be underway last year.

It'll probably be a miracle if we see any construction on the site this year. In fact, there's probably a higher chance we see development on the west side of KGB between 104 and 108th prior to this.

There's a 4th modular home that's gone up? Because none of the first 3 are on the property for Whalley District.

Looks like demolition of some sort is taking place on the rear side.

Demolition set for the Flamingo on Saturday June 22. First 500 people get a free T-Shirt, a local DJ will be playing, and the Mayor will be on site.

I don't think so. I really dislike it when developers clear sites just to let them sit there empty

I agree with you. When it sets empty it looks more dumpy

They're clearing the building to keep it from becoming a squatters paradise. They lost their license to be able to use part or all of the building so opted to demolish it rather than let it sit empty as the repairs were going to be way too costly for a building that was only supposed to be used for another 2-5 years.

The site was demolished yesterday. Apparently it drew up quite the crowd as well. No word on when construction is slated to start however.

Saw this render for the project on the CBC article. Looking north on KGB:

There was a story on Global news and here it is on Daily Hive.
They had fireworks when the excavator dug into the building.

From Tien Sher twitter Feb 13, 2020:

New design, new rendering...
I count 51 storeys to the base of the crown.
The Tien Sher website still has the old protruding box design.

Original here (no story on the project):

What... I am so confused by this project. Are they starting from scratch with a new dev proposal then?
