Prasarana increases train service frequency beginning today
Bernama September 10, 2021 18:51 pm +08
Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 10): The frequency of all rail services operated by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has been increased effective today, following Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya's transition into Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

Rapid KL LRT chief operating officer Azmi Md Zain said the move is to enable passengers to continue to observe physical distancing, as a higher volume of passengers is expected from next week.

“We constantly monitor passenger density through closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and will increase the number of trains if there is a need to do so.

“Passengers do not have to worry as we will provide enough capacity in compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP),” he told reporters after conducting checks at the KL Sentral here today.

He said passengers using the Ampang/Sri Petaling and Kelana Jaya LRT lines, Monorail line and Kajang MRT line could expect four to 10-minute intervals between each train, depending on the time of day, adding that the rail service would operate daily from 6am to 11pm.

Azmi said passengers were encouraged to observe physical distancing as the train services would be running at 100% capacity.

Meanwhile, passenger N Nalini, who boarded the LRT train from Taman Jaya to Ampang Park expressed her happiness as she did not have to wait long to head to work.

“Usually, I need to wait up to 10 minutes, but today, it was just four minutes. So I will not be late for work anymore,” said the bank officer.

Another 50-year-old employee in the private sector, Tan Yeen, admitted she felt safer travelling by train after being fully vaccinated, even though the train was full.

“We should not forget to comply with the SOP such as observing physical distancing and using hand sanitisers,” she added.

ERL to resume train services from Sept 13
Bernama September 09, 2021 15:19 pm +08
Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 9): Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) will resume its train services, KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit, from Sept 13 and will run as a combined service from 6am to 10.10pm every day.

ERL in a statement today said the move follows the announcement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday to allow Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Selangor to move to Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan.

Trains will run at hourly intervals during the operation hours and the schedule will be adjusted accordingly later to suit the growing passenger ridership, it said.

"With the service resumption, ERL is offering again a free Weekly TravelCard for every purchase of the KLIA Transit Monthly TravelCard with a registered MyKad. The promotion will start immediately and will run until Nov 30 to encourage more people who are going back to their office to start using public transportation again for their daily commute.

"The Monthly TravelCard provides huge savings for commuters as it is heavily discounted, up to 83%," the statement read.

ERL's train services were temporarily suspended from June 4 when the nationwide total lockdown was implemented at the beginning of the month and the service suspension was decided upon consultation with the Ministry of Transport and the Land Public Transport Agency.

Meanwhile, the statement also said that to date, 99% of all ERL staff, including 100% of its frontline and operational staff, have been fully vaccinated with the remaining few unvaccinated due to health and medical reasons.

"With full vaccination and stringent daily cleaning of the trains and stations, the public can be assured of a safe and comfortable experience when taking the train services," the statement said.

For the full train schedule and updates on the precautionary measures, passengers can visit www.KLIAekspres.com or KLIA Ekspres Facebook.

Dr Wee holds virtual meeting with ACCCIM’s new leadership
By MARTIN CARVALHO Wednesday, 08 Sep 2021 10:08 AM MYT
Quote:
PETALING JAYA: The continued development of people-oriented public transportation projects will help bring a myriad of economic benefits to the nation, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister cited projects such as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), Circle Line (MRT3) and the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) as crucial as part of economic recovery efforts as Covid-19 will become endemic in the country.

"I am of the view that the community also has to be ready to live with Covid-19 in the future as the pandemic has changed our daily lives, the various economic eco-system and development trends.

"As such, we will continue monitoring the development of the market, implement investors friendly policies including assisting in boosting and the recovery of local industry," he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Sept 8).

Dr Wee posted his thoughts on the nation's future direction after holding a virtual meeting with the new leadership of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) on Tuesday (Sept 7) night.

At the same time, he said that projects such as the ECRL, MRT3 and RTS must be fully developed to allow them to bring various economic benefits for the nation.

On his meeting with the new ACCCIM leadership, he said discussions focused on the upcoming Budget 2022 among others.

Dr Wee, who is also MCA president, said that ACCCIM had also raised several proposals for the government to consider.

"ACCCIM proposed that the government gives attention not only to the National Recovery Plan but also on improving the SOP in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.

He added that the leaders of the business community also urged the government to be more transparent and provide the relevant statistics with regard to the pandemic.

Dr Wee said that the proposals also included improving the national healthcare system while strengthening the nation's capacity to deal with the pandemic.

He said that ACCCIM had also proposed several measures such as various subsidies and aid, tax relief and exemption to help ease the burden of the rakyat and industries.

Present at the virtual meeting were ACCCIM president Datuk Low Kian Chuan, honorary president Tan Sri William Cheng, deputy president Datuk Ng Yih Pyng, secretary-general Datuk Tan Tian Meng and treasurer Koong Lin Loong.

Low is also president of National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) while Ng is his deputy president.
