$9M in public funding approved for SkyRise Miami

Quote:
Funding for SkyRise Miami was approved at Tuesday’s Miami-Dade County commission meeting. The county reportedly approved the $9 million funding plan with little opposition. Miami voters approved SkyRise Miami, a 1,000-foot observation tower in downtown Miami, in August, and county commissioners rejected funding back in November. Commissioner Audrey Edmonson switched her vote from a “no” in November to a “yes” yesterday. “Who am I to turn around and say the voters didn’t know what they were voting for?” she told the Miami Herald. Developer Jeff Berkowitz is still raising most of the $430 million needed.

They are having funding issues, and it is happening slowly but construction is occurring. EB-5 funding is suppose to generate a substantial amount overtime. Along with the little pockets of cash from the public and the city.

I guess we'll have to wait 'til construction to stop to know that he's run out of money.

Thats true. They haven't really been transparent about how much money they have raised. Given such a large project, it would be a huge risk, so for it to continue, they must be confident. Over the long term, this will generate a profit, but right now, its looking a little iffy.

For the record, I don't look down my nose at the design like so many do. I think it's pretty cool.

Yeah, I can't agree with you. I do trust the funding from city council.

Still seems a little shaky on whether or not this ultimately gets built. But whether you like the design or not, there's no doubt that the views from up there would be amazing.

No, I didn't disagree with you. I didn't say that. I said that I will agree with the city council. You had respect that. It's their right and not yours.

Skyrise Miami targets EB-5 investors for funding

Developer Jeffrey Berkowitz heading for China to seek $270M

Quote:
Developer Jeffrey Berkowitz wants to raise $270 million for his SkyRise Miami tower from foreign investors seeking permanent residency in the United States.

In two weeks, Berkowitz will depart for China to seek out financiers for the project, a 1,000-foot high steel and glass structure that Berkowitz has dubbed Miami’s version of the Eiffel Tower. Once completed, SkyRise Miami will be the largest observation tower in the U.S.

“We’re recruiting 540 investors through the EB-5 visa federal immigration program,” Berkowitz told The Real Deal. “So far, we are making good progress.”
