Shipping down the Ohio river to New Orleans?

This is for a natural gas plant, not an oil refinery. Not in competition with Philly's refining operations, which are centered around oil. And the gas most likely will be shipped in via pipeline, and the final products out by rail or truck, not barge.

Does PATCO still have plans to build a line that goes through the Broad st line into Gloucester county? I trust PATCO getting something done before SEPTA.

A couple friends who have been by 18th and Arch have told me they've seen a lot of drilling action on the site. I saw one drill there 3 months ago when I was last in Philly. Anyone notice additional ones lately?

I wouldn't be opposed to an above-grade continuation of the BSL IF it increased the chances of it happening. Also, the Navy Yard is pretty big and somewhat sprawl-esque. An above-grade line perhaps allows for multiple stops, much like an airport train line. And speaking of which, what about extending the line to the airport? Or adding a stop to the Navy Yard on the R1. It may not sound necessary now, but if the NY continues to grow...

Either way, good news. This is way more important than a Delaware Ave line.

Vancouver's tallest is also 659 feet, which is the height of what will be Philly's 6th tallest. Their tallest office building is 481 feet... and most of their skyscrapers are bland uninspired Miami wannabes.

Agree. It could loop around the NY with 2 or 3 stops before heading North again. Why not?

Re: the bsl
There is no existing tunnel to the Navy yard. The challenge with going above grade is surfacing in the right place in between the right infrastructure with the right grade to meet the current below grade portion. The challenge with below ground is that the navy yard is rock but much of the area between 76 and the navy yard is fill so figuring out what is rock and what is old garbage will be necessary. The solution to either problem is $600 million. How much does Liberty Property really want to maximize their exclusive development rights deal?

There were plans in the early 20th century for the train to run from Logan to League Island (now the Navy Yard) these plans never came to fruition. There was an article about it in Philadelphia Magazine a few months ago.

Vancouver has height restrictions in place so that aerial views aren’t blocked of the surrounding mountains. Both Philly and Vancouver are amazing cities, but neither has awe-inspiring architecture. North American cities, in general, tend to be much more conservative and less innovative than some of the buildings and proposals abroad…just my opinion.
