Now come on vin. Everyone knows that building taller buildings in Vancouver is not economical!! What do you think this is? Edmonton? it's the market that decides how tall something is, it's just a magical coincidence that everything is built right up to the allowable height limits.

But seriously, I hope it's more reflective and less see through than what some renders show

Smile thanks again, mcminsen

Interesting, informative set of how the project is finally coming along. Whatever one's take on the future building design, it sure beats that ugly grey carpark that's been there for so long.
The new building (in the renders anyway) doesn't clash with the existing Scotia tower, and the flared lower part has a bevell that ties well in with it.
IMO, if it were to look more "sophisticated" (hate that word) but anyway, ..... the new building could have had bevells, or echoes of the existing Scotia tower bevells, right to the top.
That way, it would have had a more "integrated" look to it as if it had been planned as two complementary towers, designed that way originally, rather than as an "add-on" or 'afterthought'
but it's not too bad; doesn't scream "apples and shoe polish" or such like.

They should put the address on that wrap by London Drugs -
chances are lots of people will think the London Drugs is going to be demolished.

Maybe already answered on here, but will this tower be directly connected to the underground mall / connection to the Canada Line?

I really hope so...

Of course it's the market that decides Vancouver's office towers are all table-topping, silly silly me!

There is a hallway for a daytime mall (between the Canada Line and Scotiabank's basement elevators) that this new building could plug into. It sure would be worth it for tenants to have a rain-free transit connection, en lieu of parking spaces off-site. If not now, soon as all the parkades in this sector of downtown are being redeveloped.

There should be another London Drugs blade sign on that blank wall.

Probably just the daytime escalators down to the mall in the Scotiabank
(behind the word "banking" in this rendering).
Not sure if Scotia Tower elevators would be available to 753 Seymour tenants outside regular bank hours to access the mall.

http://www.vancouvercentre.com/building/#overview

The rezoning plans showed escalators to the mall (to the current health club former food court),
but the new renderings don't show that escalator (could be hidden by the green wall?)

It's definitely being advertised as directly connected to Canada line and Pacific Centre

Yes.

Canada Line/SkyTrain Connection: Located in the Central Business District (CBD), the subject site is extremely well located with regard to transit. There are multiple bus and bicycle routes on the adjacent streets, and as part of the application, improved public access would be provided through a direct link from the Seymour Street site to the Vancouver Centre Mall, to the Vancouver City Centre Canada Line Station, and to Skytrain connections at The Bay.

Note the demolition right to the marble terrazzo cladding on Scotia Tower.

Interesting that parkade predated the construction of Vancouver Centre, yes.

Now that we can easily see the back side of the old Vancouver Block, it's pretty nice.
