I believe that part of the mall that protrudes towards Lougheed (currently has BMO, McDonalds, etc.) will be removed. From a few pages back..

A scramble intersection at Lougheed and Willingdon? I really, really hope you are being sarcastic. This is a important intersection and already a choke point for two major roads and it will only get worse going forward. There even is a pedestrian overpass via the station to the the north side of Lougheed highway and other options at Halifax, Dawson and Madison. There will NEVER be a scramble intersection there, and even if someone at city hall lost their marbles and tried for one the largest landowners in the area would force a stop to it (just look at what Brentwoods and Solos main selling points
are in their marketing brochures, yes, the highway, Lougheed and Willigdon, with the skytrain station being a secondary selling point. This intersection is too important for the movement of CARS and the people they carry.

While there will be access to Brentwood Station from Brentwood Mall, there won't be any from Solo Distract. Furthermore, there will likely be quite a few people wanting to cross between the two sites. When there are a large number of pedestrians and vehicles present, a scramble crossing can be a good solution as it would restrict pedestrians from crossing while vehicles are turning.

I'm a bit surprised they haven't come out with more detailed renderings for the whole project yet, or at least phase 2. Would seem to suggest that they might still be playing around with the heights of the towers...

Great to see work finally starting on Brentwood Mall, it's been a long time coming but I think worth the wait. the rendering above is out of date but I think only for the number and heights of the towers. Heard highest of 60 stories but still nothing to review at city hall.

Any word if Shape will be partnering with an established residential developer for Brentwood? I think someone mentioned Mosaic(?) a while ago, but there aren't any references to a partner on the project website.

Love the extra wide sidewalks.

I don't know if they've found a partner yet but I believe that will end up being the play on this project.

That is already an extremely busy car intersection.

Burnaby should cough up some dough, or force some developers to blend some overhead cycle and pedestrian paths between the mall, the station, and Solo, as well as the NW corner that leads to Save On and some other residential towers.

At that point a small interchange might be worth investigating. 2x 2 lane overpasses could probably fit on the Lougheed Hwy alignment. Staging would be very difficult though.

How would that fit in? I could see an underpass with two lanes in each direction, but not an overpass.

Overpass is out of the question with the skytrain in the way. I don't see how an underpass would work either at this intersection. How would you facillitate both east west and north south with turning.

I think the only option would be some kind of pedestrian underpass Connecting Solo District and the Plaza. That being said, pedestrian underpasses are often dark and scary and could turn into hotspot for vandalism and crime especially with such proximity to rapid transit; the pedestrians will avoid it.

In my eyes the only option is some kind of extension of the plaza underground and connected to Solo, filled with some shops or a food court. This would draw in people and make it active, safe and bring the two communities together.

This would not be easy to do build. It would be expensive and require shutting down the intersection for a long time...

Couldn't builders do the same box-insertion they did for the Evergreen Line, and build within the box?

Have an east-west underpass but still keep the light for those turning left north-south onto Willingdon.

This allows traffic along Lougheed to flow uninterrupted and reduces the amount of red-light time for Willingdon going north and south bound.

Not so much.

There already exists a pedestrian over pass just a little ways up at Brentwood station and the ground to skytrain base appears to be the same at the intersection. Heck, start redeveloping the gas station and the car dealership and you can just use the Brentwood pedestrian overpass as part of the road over pass links.

What needs to happen is completion of the highway upgrades, the completion of the east west connector roads and Costco and at Dawson. that might help ease the traffic load at lougheed and willingdon.

A compact diamond interchange may fit:
