It looks like the groundfloor. Is that a unit or a common area? Very nice either way.

Looking at the exterior of the building, this is one of the few times I can say that the finished product looks better than the renderings. Probably the first time I can say it in Ottawa-Gatineau!

Is it just me, or is the ceiling mirrored?
I thought they were vaulted ceilings in an earlier post (for the life of me, I couldn't understand why), but with these new pics it appears as though they are mirrors, and I'm still left with the question - why?

I had the same question. I thought it was a common area as it seemed like 18 foot ceilings. A mirror makes more (ish) sense. "Interesting" choice indeed if the ceilings are in fact mirrored. Overall looks like a nice unit in a nice building.

The ceilings are from Extenzo which is the manufacturer. They add a totally other dimension to an area or room.

Watch this demo of product durability and resistance.

Ok, that video has certainly demonstrated the durability of this Extenzo product, but is this the same material that the mirrored ceilings are made of? And if so, what exactly is the benefit? If you had a leak in your ceiling, as the video showed, the water would sit and gather in a bubble, as opposed to soaking your dry wall, but you still have to remove whatever ceiling material is there to fix the leak, whether it's dry wall or this Extenzo stuff. I would think this material would be more beneficial in a gym or somewhere where the walls or ceilings take a lot of abuse.

As for mirrored ceilings: I get that mirrors give the illusion of space, but I would think more people would lean towards having mirrored walls or doors (like many do with their front hall closet doors), mirrored ceilings remind me of an adult movie set.

Same material. The purpose of the water is for demonstration purposes only. It has nothing to do with stopping leaks!

Which movie theater did you go to?

I can't believe they built the best looking condo in the city on the dark side. I hope this wakes up the Ontario builders and they start trying when it comes to design.

Does anyone know how the quality and finishing turned out for this one?

I agree this this building rocks! Best looking thing on the 'dark side' (as Harley says), as well as the Ottawa side. It looks great when crossing the M-C bridge, and certainly adds a modern element to the tired, 1970s-heavy Hull skyline.

On a one to ten, I would say 9.

Dark side?

I was at Jacques Cartier Park yesterday for Winterlude. The Viu looks amazing from the park and it really enhances the area. It would be nice if there were more condos on that strip but with retail space on the ground floor. There's not enough places to get a coffee, a quick bite to eat, or access a bank machine. It would nice if they had a Menchies or small grocery store. Where do people in downtown Gatineau grocery shop anyway?

Didn't there used to be a Super-C like two blocks from here, by the SAQ Depot?

(Aside from the odd race up Maisonneuve to the highway, I'm not in the area very often)

The SAQ Dépôt was the old supermarket. It was an IGA and then a Loeb under the name Champlain.

There are plans for a supermarket one block up from promenade du Portage. It will be the ground floor of the Cartier-Wellington condo building. Corner of Leduc and Wellington. It's apparently a lock and will happen.

At this point people who live in the area generally shop at Maxi on St-Joseph near Les Galeries or at Super C near the casino.

We can rest assured that the parking lot on the right side of the VIU will not be there for too long. Expect a new condo in a couple of years.

I agree with you that retail would be nice to have in the area but I doubt the current population can support it.

What we do have within a couple of blocks is a SAQ depot, corner store, MacDonald's and St Hubert restaurant.

After that, you need to walk down Laurier st. to downtown Gatineau to access restaurants and bars or even better walk across the bridge to the market area.
