Furthest your city's skyline can be seen from?

Granted there's a bit of zoom lens action here, this is a shot from the top of a mountain in Kananaskis Country. Even without a zoom lens you can still see the city from the top of mountains in K-Country.

The furthest you can see Calgary's skyline while driving on a road is:

-from the north (45kms approx) or

-from the east (50kms approx)

Montreal's been submitting mountain top views, Toronto's been working with elevation changes and lake moisture based mirages, and Vancouver's been working using mountains. Why should Calgary be different?

Because it is hard to compare. Plus, Calgary started the mountain top pics.

Im pretty sure you can see Calgary further away than any city in Calgary. It is in a bowl an surrounded by hills.

The thread title is a little bit misleading. It says nothing about using zoom lenses, or satellites from space, or standing on a mountain, or anything of that nature. They ALL are valid IMO. With a good enough zoom (telescope?) aliens might be able to see a Canadian city from light years away...
But if the thread title was amended to say that your city's skyline must be visible with the naked eye, that would end all of the confusion, and introduce another problem. Some people simply have better eyesight than others, and some people are prone to exaggerate more than others as well.

From the mountains using a zoom lens, these are the most interesting shots I've seen on this thread, so keep 'em coming!

You are probably right, though between the Port Dalhousie pier and the city is mostly water, basically a 40km bee-line between the pier and Confederation Park.

It's worth a look.

As a former resident of Fanny Bay, just north of Bowser, yes you can see Vancouver from there depending on conditions.

Moisture does affect them though. The lensing factor and such. Plus the lakes affect temperature because of specific heat capacities and such. Without the lakes there'd be a lot fewer mirage events.

Thats a perfect shot of the Toronto skyline from Hamilton. Really shows how visible it can be on a nice day. Probably 70km straight across the lake, too. You can very clearly make out First Canadian Place and all the bank buildings.
