Maybe because I can only remember when it was just empty land (2 years ago up to now)

Also seems out of place for a dairy queen. too residential

And the other one was indeed a strip mall

Yep the strip mall was at Fraser and 30th. Can't quite remember what was at 20th. Might have been a parking lot and a few stores? The Church's chicken is at 41st and fraser like another forummer pointed out

Fraser Street has quite a few buildings prime for redevelopment.

Officedweller is correct it was a chruchs chicken, Fraser used to have two, that one and the one at 41st ave. The one there has been closed down for years now at least 5 or 6.

There are now two Ferraris, an Audi, and a Mercedes-Benz hanging in the NW car mobile at the new Ferrari-Maserati dealership at Burrard & 3rd.

I'll try to get some pics on the next sunny day.

Some more info on the Fraser and 30th Project. It is of some interest to me since I was involved in the construction of the No Frills in Coquitlam. I must say, No Frills is a fitting name. You won't find any deli, bakery, or anything nice like that inside.

Quote:
The polite four-storey building that constitutes phase one of Century runs a full block on Fraser with three storeys designated residential and much needed basic and boutique retail on the ground floor.

No-frills, a Loblaw-based super grocery, will anchor the development, along with Shoppers Drug Mart. Specialty retail and coffee shops, plus office space, complete the block.
Here is the full article.

Here is the web site for the project http://www.ledmac.com/century/. If the rendering is any indication, it looks much better than I thought.

Anything that leads to one less Church's Chicken is a good thing.

Here's a couple drive-by updates:

Work has started on the project at the sw corner of west 8th ave and Heather, behind the Holiday Inn. Not much to see in my photo, just some tree removal. Today they were tearing up the asphalt:

And here's what they're building at Laurel and 10th. It's at VGH but I'm not sure what it's going to be:

Really? I was unaware this proj was hitting the dirt already.... Jlousa, whats the status on this one?

Also I dont think this really qualifies as infill, the project is pretty sizable.

Well it's ~80% sold and it hasn't even started marketing yet.
Yume if you want a unit you better let me know soon, I can promise you that the building will look better then Capitol.

Not much of a promise... I coulda promised that just by observing the architect's name.

Jlo, can you let us know roughly what the price ranges for the units are or is that information still not to be released?

Hopefully this is the right thread. Here's a two picture update on the development on the 2200-ish block of Kingsway where the London Guard motel used to be:

That's all!

Another drive-by update, this one just one picture in length. This is at 33rd and Cambie, nothing too major but I was sitting at the light in the perfect spot for a photo. They're almost finished this:

i really wanted to like this project, but it looks really weird. I'm sure it's in the higher end, but still it just looks weird. One thing I like is the laneway housing, there's a small bachelor's pad on top of the garage.
