^Are you meaning in pictures or in person? It always looks dirty in person to me. I'm quite sure it is just because it hasn't got a proper cleaning yet and it has so far just been accumulating construction-related dust etc. I've noticed that the newer glass towards the top is always shinier than the stuff at the bottom since it hasn't sat there accumulating dirt for as long.

Sorry, I guess I posted a bit too late there... I was aiming that question at Hed Kandi. But no worries.

Anyways, here's a pic that was passed along to me by a friend that shows how the Shangri-la is impacting the skyline so far. It's not the best quality because I cropped it from a larger picture. I'm also not exactly sure which day it was taken but either way it still has the height equivalent of ~12 storeys to go if including mechanical etc.

Where the top of the crane is now approximately represents how high the building will be.

Look at Shangri-la from in front of the Four Seasons on W. Georgia or the Bay. Then keep your eye on it as you walk west on Georgia toward the tower.

The tower looks better from a few blocks away !

Looks like they have busted out the Christmas lights for the crane again.

This Christmas lighting makes me really hope that there will be lighting patterns running up the three corners and atop the crown which change with the seasons and holidays.

nice shot. Reminds me of when I was in New York looking at that new Diamond patterned building Sir N. Foster designed... think it is called the Hearst building.

Anyways here is the pic:

Gives me a warm feeling to see that finally Vancouver reminds me of New York in a way... Vancouver still isn't as much of a canyon as New York, but with another 200 meter tall building on the left, this same Vancouver angle would look just like a New York city-street.

few more pics that I thought of after seeing this:

Yes I psted a pic of the empire state. are they the same? no, one is glass, one is... some form of rock. one is also twice as tall as the other. Shangri-la reminds me of the Empire State building because of the way they stand out in their respective cities.

hmm... in my analogy I think Wall Centre would be the Chrysler building.

I really really wish/hope they change the windows on the top 1/3 of wall centre to match the lower 2/3rds.

That simple change would do WONDERS for the building and downtown in general!!!

Wow, Shangri-la is making the Wall Centre look like your premature cousin. I think it doesn't look out-of-place, it will eventually form the tip of the skyline dome quite nicely.

While most people find a tall iconic tower to be out of place, like the columbia seafirst centre in seattle... I happen to liek the idea of buildings standing hundreds of feet above the rest. it doesn't make any of the other buildings look smaller, infact i feel it happens to make the skyline feel that much bigger, as you have the allusion of additional height in addition to true height. the 200-300 foot wall of glass will now look like a 400 foot wall of glass, and the shangri-la will appear to stand between 800 and 1000 feet tall in the background. I think some of this effect might actually be lost with the construction of the Ritz Carlton.
