HX Guy, would you mind editing the first post to show the development team for this project? I'm especially interested in architect, if possible builder, any other firms involved you might know. It would be cool to have all of that information at the beginning of the thread so it's easy to find. Just a thought. Thanks for the model pic! Any idea what the model is made of? It looks like one piece carved to shape.

HX_Guy, let's not call it a "crown." That'll jinx the whole project.....roof is good enough, lol.

Looks very unimpressive in that form. Geez, let's hope it doesn't turn out looking like another big box. Last thing DT Phoenix needs is another 26-story "box". Blue glass is good though

Large footprints (ie boxy buildings) are pretty typical among office buildings. Sure it may not offer a whole lot of inspiration, but it's a sign of downtown's maturing and continued economic strength, which is great for downtown and good for the rest of Phoenix.

I understand that office buildings tend to be large "boxes" but the nice boxes generally have some kind stylization (tapering, geometric variety, crowns, etc.). Phoenix seems to embrace and/or allow only standard "boxes". The *only* thing that makes CPE tolerable is the facade extensions that rise above the building and the exterior highlights. Otherwise, yes, it's another very boring "box" for DT. Inexcusable really but if all we expect is potatoes for dinner, potatoes is what we'll keep getting. Because, hey, it's cheaper.

I take umbrage at you calling that building a potato. It has a glass facade, and I love it. :p

Another big box? What are you talking about? Most of the buildings downtown aren't boxy. This building is topnotch, beautiful and very modern.

edit: Just noticed that you live in Houston. Your uninformed opinions are making a lot more sense now.

^ Dude, don't be an ass. One Vandercock is enough here. I HAVE lived in Phoenix, was born in Arizona...so, there, I feel the right to comment. Um, you're wrong...DT Phoenix and Central Avenue is the land of boxes. Sorry, it's true. Very boring rectangles. Take a look at the rest of the forum and you'll notice very interesting architecture all over the world. Phoenix is LAME by comparison. But if you enjoy more boxes, by all means.

I think CPE sort of falls in the same line as the Sheraton--by itself, it's probably not that bad of a design (presuming they have the shade things in the latter tower) but it's something that shouldn't be duplicated over and over again. It's hard to make that many variations using so much blue glass. One or two can make a nice addition to a skyline, but once it starts to dominate like what's rising in Tempe along Rio Salado (HFL, etc) it gets old quick.

wow, another cheap shot when I'm not around. You're cool with that little twist on letters. I've never heard that before, not once, in my entire life. I can't believe they didn't come up with that in high school.

New news....I think. I just talked t the designer of OCPE. Groundbreaking is November 14th. He is going to show me some insider stuff. We will see what is to be seen. He is bigtime jazzed about the glass being used! It should make for some amazing views depending on the light and time of day.

One Central Park East project to break ground

Andrew Johnson
The Arizona Republic
Nov. 9, 2007 05:15 PM

Developers will break ground Wednesday morning on One Central Park East, a 26-story office high-rise at the northwest corner of First and Van Buren Streets in downtown Phoenix.

One Central Park East is a project by Mesirow Financial Real Estate Inc., A&L Phoenix Development LLC and the National Electrical Benefit Fund. It is scheduled for completion in fall 2008, and would be the first Class A office tower to be built in downtown Phoenix since 2001.

If you have not checked this out i strongly recomend it. http://1cpe.com/oneCPE_brochure.pdf
The coolest info I found was the landscaping that is planned. It states on page 20 that it will include a pituresque plaza with mature shade trees, walkways, and benches. All of the plantings will be indigenous to Arizona and will have a modern irragation system that will aid water conservation.

Can't wait until groundbreaking on wednesday!!!
