If you ever want to make something last forever just call it a planned infrastructure project in the city of Atlanta.

The Juniper Complete Street Project is set to begin construction this month! The 12-block project runs from 14th Street to Ponce de Leon Avenue and will include a cycle-track, new street trees and lighting, on-street parking, and intersection upgrades. TSW has been working with Midtown Alliance for more than a decade to see this project from concept to construction documents to implementation, with a host of delays because that’s often the nature of our business. This week, TSW, along with Midtown Alliance, will conduct a review of existing trees to determine which ones need to be pruned to decrease the risk of damage during construction.

ATL could be lapped by Charlotte, Houston, and Dallas if it doesn't get its city limits under control or add additional ring-highways.

Theres no excuse for 285 being the exclusive bypass option for a metro area comprised mostly of suburban networks.

The ‘bike n roll’ guy in the picture above I predict will get hit by a car once he leaves the cycle track.

Spur trail to link Atlanta’s ‘Upper Westside’ to Downtown

https://roughdraftatlanta.com/2023/0...e-to-downtown/
Quote:
Construction is expected to begin early next year on the .75-miles long Westside Paper Spur Trail, a $2.9 million project of the Upper Westside Community Improvement District and PATH Foundation.

To the south, it will tie into the Westside BeltLine Connector at Jefferson Street where users can then make their way to places like Centennial Park in the heart of Downtown.

Cool beans. REALY need to address W Marietta also and all the way to Westside park. I hope "future cycle" means pedestrian too. I have bitched and posted pics before about parts that don't have any sidewalks.

The cycle track on West Marietta is only to Marietta Blvd, not all the way to Westside Park unfortunately, at least not yet.

Reach out to UWCID if you have questions or thoughts. Adeline is great, FWIW.

Kind of surprised the paper trail will be elevated tbh.

There's an incredibly steep embankment behind Puritan Mill with a creek or drainage ditch running down past the neighboring apartments, so I'm sure the elevated section is there to clear the creek and provide an accessible grade up to the top of the embankment. I believe that's just a retaining wall towards the back of the image, but it visually blends with the bridge in the rendering for some reason.

The way this is shaping up, it could very well be the future residents of Atlanta will see the Beltline and all of its spurs the way we see 285 and the interstates. It could become *the* way to get around the city once completed. Maybe they should consider building some of those elevated trails into downtown or midtown?

Imagine a fully built out beltline and its connections to protected bike lanes all across the city. Hopefully we can foster a biking/e-biking culture throughout the city and one day have 10s of thousands of Atlantan's utilizing it as a daily commuter route.

I would be thrilled for another subway line through downtown and midtown going up to Cobb County. As the city continues to densify, and the suburbs/additional employment hubs densify as well, additional transit will be needed. There could be a day when downtown and midtown look/feel like Chicago/Boston/Seattle/SF. Add in the additional modes of transportation and we're rockin'.

Thank you, honestly had never been over on that stretch and not familiar with the topography! Very interesting.

This is where we are already heading. No need for bike infrastructure to be completely elevated, just a little separated from roads / vehicles and we’ll be set. Make our routes connect and the rest will follow.

Much of our city’s population & growth areas already have a plan to be connected or within close proximity of a protected route or trail.

Yeah, I just can't wait for it to happen. So thankful for Ryan Gravel's vision and the city officials who got the ball rolling 10+ years ago. Obviously wish we would dump even more money into the process, but Atlanta and the metro areas biking/walking infrastructure has absolutely exploded in a relatively short time. And we are finally getting close to that point where they start to really integrate into each other well.

The next ~2-4 years are big for the connections. Most of the city will have *some* connection to one another afterwards, where each project after that will compound and provide options and shorten distances between safe routes.

It’s an exciting time, for sure. And I’m with ya on wanting it faster and pouring more money into it.

East Atlanta Village has seen much improvement in the past few years. Many marked bike lanes now including westerly on Glenwood providing direct connectivity to the Beltline at Glenwood Park/Bill Kennedy. Of course it could be better, but it's much improved over prior years.

Also understanding the strong aversion to autos in this group, nonetheless the realignment of Glenwood across Moreland (it was previously offset by about 75 feet) has greatly improved that previously clusterfracked intersection.

edited to add: Also lots of new Stop signs, especially along Flat Shoals and Glenwood, slowing traffic and making for a safer pedestrian and biking environment.
