... edit - it has a Facebook page!

The uncovered part has a cafe-JJ Bean, two restaurants/pub including a sushi joint, and a range of services: TD Bank, florist, & dental clinic. Covered part's main anchors, like officedweller said, are London Drugs and Nesters. It's a neat little mall. This mixed development also includes the SFU School of Arts downtown.

Reminder of the site - behind the Evergreen Building.

This design has huge view blocking potential
- but the taper on the north side may preserve views from the top of the neighbouring Palladio tower.

Is this the site for the Shigeru Ban building? The first two pics are the West Pender side (1255 W. Pender). The other pics are the West Hastings side (1250 W. Hastings).

I'm hoping more deals will be done for these terrible high maintenance buildings from the 80's and 90's.

My question now is if the buyer is the same guy who will be restoring the Rogers mansion as a complete redevelopment. any ideas?

That building has been on our Realtor's sh*t list for years! Rumours of constant envelope issues so good for the owners!

Wonder if those "benches" are designed to discourage people sleeping on them?

Agreed. This is great public space too, bordered by restaurants with patios. Good to see in Vancouver.

I think the large mature trees really add a lot to Jim Deva Plaza, too.

That new plaza looks quite bland, even with the rainbows. Not really inviting.

Yup that's it - the blue building.

*************

What's up with the single bollard?
It doesn't even prevent a car from driving to the side of it.
It also looks a bit phallic with the handles on it.

Agreed that the space could benefit from something in the middle - fountain, statue or even some vendors.

And those light poles look totally out of place in the plaza. Should have painted them with some rainbow coloured mosaic or pattern.

Good question. A blend of both, somehow.

More details of Jim Deva Plaza. They've stuck no entry symbol signs to the bollards. Also, I appreciate the sign explaining the 8 colour Pride flag.

Many thanks for the great photos mcminsen!! Attended a TD Mortgage event at XY YVR off the plaza last night. Was pleased to see so many people enjoying Jim Deva Plaza! There's never been a nice gathering spot in Davie Village, I hope this will spark a revitalization of the street and much of it is still looking rather shabby.

Great that they also recognized Jim Deva's legacy, he was certainly was a pioneer and game changer in the community, it is sad, however, that following his death, Little Sister's has degraded to basically a sex shop.

A water feature might do well here.

It's much nicer in person, plus it's full of people now which wasn't shown in the images. That added with the full restaurant patios creates a lively and fun place to be. The light poles have dance club light effects attached to them, which creates a vibrant, animated atmosphere at night.

Also bear in mind that it's designed to host a variety of programs, so flexible space is needed. It's pretty impressive all around IMO.
