I don’t understand HRI, for all their expertise, why they would propose something so small in a prime location, walkable to the Quarter, across the Lafitte Greenway, and next to the interstate. Their parking lot design doesn’t even easily allow a second phase to be built facing the greenway. This kind of low density design is fine for a Houston suburb, but this is a waste of a downtown block.

I dont disagree that its not very dense but i think this is HANO pushing this design so cant really blame HRI.. although it does say Winn Dixie Phase 1.. so who knows .. but HANO only owns one other small parcel across from this.. rest of parking lot is joe jaegers.. looks like this HANO building will be just like the rest of Bienville Basin.. but at least it will have a nice connection to the greenway... also that parking lot isnt really next to the greenway at all but parking lots that are part of the greenway .. so kind of misleading the way they show it... see below... its a weird area right now so i hope the different stakeholders are communicating with eachother

There are also CVS and Walgreens pharmacies right on Canal, right? I know the big Walgreens on Canal has a pharmacy. Is the market for pickup subscriptions that strong on the edge of the CBD?

I know it was mentioned earlier on this thread but I saw two cranes at the site of the Odeon. I can't think of anything else besides the Odeon starting that would require that type of machinery.

UPDATE: I stopped by site and asked workers. It's just test piles. Parking lot will open back up in about a week.

Yeah the permit isnt approved yet and domain runs those parking lots to the last day.. is suspect sometime early summer! But its safe to say when it does start full construction the whole block will be closed off... back portion will im sure be used for staging

Speaking of which, it sounds like Tulane will be using that old Walgreen's space for a downtown gym and/or police station.

Wow those look nice. Really a great design for that part of the city. It fits in with the brownstone-esque architecture in the area but is obviously modern.

JW Marriott is finally updating their guest rooms. Should be a welcomed addition to the hotel lineup on Canal Street.
