So, thanks to you and all of you contributors for making the forum so informative, valuable, and enjoyable. Cheers!
I live a lot closer, about 15 to 20 minutes away depending on the time of day and I rarely venture to downtown so I too appreciate the contributors to this forum to keep me posted. I did live near downtown and my wife used to work at 9th and Congress but we moved to Round Rock to raise a family. The contributor posts are an excellent way to keep up to date, but nothing compares to being downtown in the thick of things. I'm going back in daylight in a few days for a different perspective. Next time you come visit, you might want to come home to stay. Be prepared to be amazed.

I noticed that Microsoft "Bing" maps have updated satellite images for Austin. They don't have the nice 3D images that Google has, although, they used to, but their satellite photos are more up to date. The Independent is complete in them, for example, and it's showing the site prep/construction for Indeed Tower, 300 Colorado, 5th & Brazos, Marriott at Cesar Chavez, and Plaza Saltillo.

I'm surprised they made a flyover rendering of the Bowie HS parking garage. It's cool, but still made me laugh.

Anybody notice that the new burger king commercial for their new tacos was filmed on 6th street? You can see the Frost tower in the background.

Speaking of fast food tacos and their ties to Texas... Jack in the Box tacos are made in Lampasas.

Don't know if you are serious, but Jack in the Box tacos are seriously bad.

I'm totally serious.

JitB sells 554 million of those stupid tacos a year.

I noticed that too, was thinking about posting it. I find it funny that they chose Austin to promote their new $1 taco, since Austin is probably the city that invented the $5 taco (thanks Torchy's).

Just wait until you get a Taco Palenque (if they aren't there already) and their $3.99 bean-n-cheese tacos!

Haha. But why bother animating the walkers, bike riders and tennis players if they don't go anywhere? Even the people in the stairwell are animated, but stuck in place.

Since I have been unable to find any definative answer to this question that has been bugging me for years, I'll ask the forum roster here your opinions. In terms of height or floor count or both, at which point is a building considered A) Midrise B) Highrise C) Skyscraper?

It seems like sooo many commercials feature downtown Austin now...

Just saw one for Doordash. They faked a larger park out of Republic Square and the parking lot next to it, but downtown around it is unmistakeable.

https://www.ispot.tv/ad/oT3R/doordash-wherever-you-are (Austin is at the end)

I believe a general approximation for "skyscraper" is >= 150 m and a "supertall" is >= 300 m. Not sure about the others.

NAIOP (National Association of Industrial & Office Properties) defines them as low-rise, mid-rise and high-rise by floor count, quoted below.

Quote:
Office Building Types and Sizes
Low-rise: Fewer than 7 stories above ground level
Mid-rise: Between 7 and 25 stories above ground level
High-rise: More than 25 stories above ground level
