Thanks Wpg_Guy for doing all that work. Excellent.

Do either of the rec plexs have funding? Both are expensive projects? Sounds like maybe the South end one does.

Edit: I see it's here for the south rec plex. http://clkapps.winnipeg.ca/DMIS/perm...250509(RM)FI-3

$118 million simolions.

IIRC the east rec plex was about $90 million and unfunded.

Yeah, me too. Wintrup was certainly outspoken on a losing issue with Lemay. And his opinion pieces in the Sun... .

Re: 436 Balmoral Street -- I was excited by the prospect of a new taller build near UW, but it sure looks like the developer made zero effort to engage in the process. Not sure what sort of advice Wintrup provided to the developer, but he ought to know how things work, as a former city planner.

I found it odd that the consultant to the owner was going about that Lemay forest in the way they did. In one way, you're bound to your contract with the client and public engagement is Wintrup's job. But for something like that, it's very odd to go to batt they way they did on such a hot political item.

Action at the Boyd Building! Potentially exciting, but I'll wait and see.
If it's still owned by Jags Development (Caspian Construction -- Armik Babakhanians) I'm not convinced this is real. But I would love to be pleasantly surprised!

If you read his Sun editorials, I get the sense he's a real libertarian-type guy who feels gov't is overreaching on most things. I think he went to bat because of his own politics, not just out of professional obligation....

You have to wonder sometimes. If you scan the last six months worth of appeals, well over half of the developer appeals have him as their representative. Is it that developers with problematic proposals know to go to him, or is he the common denominator?

Re. Lemay...I heard that the developer's original intent was to simply subdivide the land for single family residential, but when they found out about the neighbourhood opposition they opted to propose the most egregious use possible allowed in the zoning bylaw that could fit on a parcel that size (5000 bed treatment facility or whatever it was) thinking the neighbours would beg for single family instead. Backfire!

It's not the best photo, but I took this an hour ago and you can see the crane in the background. I also saw some workers up on the roof.

There's also a temporary exterior elevator that I don't think was there yesterday.

All windows beside the exterior elevator are being removed. I'm guessing they're starting demos & removals from each floor? In any case, a good sign.

I forget, is this going to be residential? I haven't been in the Boyd Building since I was a wee sprat. Can anyone remember if there were still some nice period features inside? Oak trim and all that?

The last time I was in the Boyd Building, nearly 20 years ago now, I just remember a drop ceiling generic orthodontists office. Could have been any building.

I can't find a variance for this building anywhere online. Does someone have any info about how many residential and commercial units there will be?

Last time I was in the Boyd Building was a year or so before it closed, the floor I was on was really run down. Tiles were lifting on the floor of the specialists office and the elevator lobby was dingy and could use a good paint job to freshen it up.

The specialists office appearence may have been on him not wanting to spend any money to redecorate as tenant improvements may not be the responsibility of the the landlord.

Pretty sure councillor for the area has stated funding is in place for the South End one.
