How common is it for a professional engineer of some 18 years experience to be suspended before a hearing is even held?

When I woke up this morning and checked my IPad, there was something in my Facebook feed about a new Francophone private school coming to this building at 40 Henri-Dunant in the MID Industrial Park:

I was going to post about it, but, for the life of me, I can't find the bloody article again.

In any event, the building looks like it could easily be converted into a school. If I recall, it was going to offer child care, preschool, and k-8 primary education.

Does anyone have any additional information???

We are excited to share that we will be moving to Moncton in September of 2024 !

- A new chapter will begin for us! Our new location is at 40 Henri Dunant.
- The new location will have an outdoor park, open space, pre-k-9th grade classes, preschool, bilingual rehab/tutoring center, summer, winter and March camps, and a gym (in a few months).
The school is called Institut Apprenti-sage
https://www.facebook.com/InstitutApprentisage
https://www.institutapprenti-sage.com/a-propos

This sounds like a relocation from Dieppe. The school has a specialty in special needs students.

It does kind of already look like a school. Could be a good use for it. In Summerside a former call centre in their industrial park was transformed into a church and it fits rather well.

I noticed today that the lot next to Pizza Hut/Pete's Market on Main Street has been cleared off. No idea what might be planned there, but it is a nice spot to put something in, especially if they could save the trees.

Also, does anyone know what's going on with the lot on Brookside? There's a spot there with red metal fencing and a couple of excavators on it. It's been there for a few years now, and I don't think anything has been done there. Storing excavators there can't really be cheap for a lot on the edge of the Northside Core.

This is not a comprehensive list. I only included projects in southeastern NB with a known value in excess of $10M. There were many other projects where the valuation is unknown. There were lots of other projects worth less than $10M. Also, CanadaConnectConstruct would only be aware of projects that have been tendered, or brought to their attention. There are other projects I am aware of that are not on their list.

The listed projects have a total value of just shy of one billion dollars.

I'm assuming those start dates aren't very accurate? St Bernard & Infinity have spring 2025 dates while ASEC has July 2024 yet it's already under construction

Yes, I would assume that these projects have a date set, but they I’m sure could start a bit earlier or later depending on weather. I assume that’s what they base it off of.

$99M for affordable housing in Atlantic Canada

Quote:
Ottawa has announced funding to support dozens of affordable housing projects in Atlantic Canada.

Federal ministers were in Moncton on Friday afternoon to announce nearly $99 million in funding.

That money will be used to build and repair more than 4,100 affordable homes through 69 projects.
Source: https://www.919thebend.ca/2024/06/14...lantic-canada/

Was this discussed somewhere? Feel like I missed it but this is a huge project, no? Do we know how this compares to other Federal assistance for projects in Freddy and SJ?

Sounds like it.

Personally, I would be all in favour of abandoning the Magnetic Hill site, and refocusing our energies on the Medavie Blue Cross Stadium. You can easily get 20,000 people on site, even without additional bleachers. That is more than enough for most concerts. I doubt we will ever see Taylor Swift here........

2 people rescued from fire in two downtown houses
Weekend fire poses challenges for Moncton Fire Department
Author of the article:Sarah Seeley
Published Jun 24, 2024 • Last updated 18 hours ago • 3 minute read
https://tj.news/moncton-miramichi/2-...owntown-houses (paywall)

The fact this was a full alarm fire requiring all available firefighters from the city's five fire stations, should be a serious wake-up call for a city that will have 8-10 residential high rise buildings in it's downtown core within a decade.

Do we have the resources to fight a fire in buildings that will be as tall as 30-40 storeys???

I think the answer is "perhaps not."

Even with the help of the Riverview and Dieppe fire departments, I think things would be very problematic. Perhaps we should start planning for the future fire fighting needs of the city (and metro area) now...........
