Any idea who owns that? It could be one of the builders in town.

To the posters who have provided lots of links of what they consider to be 'ugly' it would be good if you provided examples of what you think is attractive, functional and also built on a reasonable budget.

I think we need to keep in mind that the viewpoints on this forum of what is 'ugly' is very subjective as some of the examples listed in Ottawa the vast majority of the general public wouldn't consider as ugly. Now the 1st links of City Centre is pretty widely considered to be fugly.

At first these didn't look the worst until I noticed the eyes. Completely changes their appearance to look like a man in a trenchcoat.

Not to be racist, but it's kind of less offensive to me than what is generic white folks tend to do with that kind of money. Simpler, less cluttered.

So they tore down the buildings because they couldn't get a tenant?

Their location is atrocious. You have the Basilica on the mountain and right next to it a large soviet style compound of concrete fugliness. As for unnecessary architectural flair, what about the massive metal antennas centered on the top of the tallest buildings? Clearly they are broadcast antennas, but they appear as an overt part of the building.

Reminds me of Calgary's Dr. Seuss castle.

The downtown Hyatt is something to behold.

It also does not fit in at all.

Looks fine to me... decent materials, decent window sizes, decently tasteful style, well representive of an era and architectural current.

Seriously, if that's not okay, you're setting the bar too high.

Roughly half the stuff that gets posted on here and called out as horrendous, I actually find "reasonably acceptable".

Perhaps I don't have much taste.

I've always had a (strange?) soft spot for this one.

Another ugly bait and switch. This time in Calgary's successful East Village redevelopment.
