It's just a crane attached to the side. It's been lived in for months. The hoists were removed long time ago too.

I believe there was an article published a while back in which the people behind the project openly admitted to having been pretty drunk when they thought of the name.

I like the name now that I know it may have been a drunken mistake. There have been numerous projects with ridiculous names. We should make a list of them all.

Developers pay good money for their campaigns. I have serious doubt any agency would admit to being drunk when they came up with the name.

I actually rather like the name. It's abstract and eccentric. So many condo names in Toronto are strictly by-the-numbers.

Found the article, where they joke about "a bottle of wine" being involved when they decided on the name:

So the EVP of Empire cracked a joke on the marketing team Empire hired. That's a far cry from the marketing team openingly admiiting they were drinking during the process.

I don't think anybody thinks they were actually drunk. I'm pretty sure we're all just poking fun at the circumstances if the naming.

Coming Off The List In 2015:

1. Ice II, TORONTO (234m)
2. L Tower, TORONTO (205m)

Meaning by the summer the list should look like this:

1. One Bloor (257.3m) TORONTO
2. 45 Bay (254m) TORONTO
3. Brookfield Place (247m) CALGARY
4. Harbour Plaza East (233m) TORONTO
5. Harbour Plaza West (224m) TORONTO
6. Ten York (224m) TORONTO
7. Stantec Headquarters EDMONTON
8. Eau Du Soleil Sky Tower (216m) TORONTO
9. Massey Tower (208.3m) TORONTO
10. 88 Scott (204m) TORONTO
So does Telus Sky go beside Stantec and 88 Scott fall off the summer list?

Stantec is 224 meters I believe, so it slots below.

88 Scott drops to the 11-30 list.

Changes to the list are already in the diagrams... 10 tallest U/C: http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=67021805
Telus Sky is on the list, as is 488 University, and 88 Scott has already dropped down to #11.

That is wild. I know that this high number of very talls UC will likely be short lived, but perhaps it begs the question, should we just change this list to Canada's 200-meter Towers UC? Probably a stupid idea, but worth discussion (without being berated for the mere suggestion, please WS)...

Has merit but, is also a Pandora box as long as some people can't set aside their own feelings and go with the accepted definition of a tower's height in this thread, on this forum and, the rest of our universe.

Yeah, passive aggressive and among being one of the best instigators the Canadian forum has ever seen you are not. I'm starting to think you truly believe that too. T

C'mon guys. Let's play nice.

That being said, I don't mind the idea of making this the 200+ metre thread, but my concern is how long is this period of so many being under construction at the same time really going to last? Admittedly with the exception of Ice II, most of the towers on the list right now have quite a long ways to go before being completed, and we still have at least two more (Eau du Soliel and 45 Bay) likely to be added to the list within the coming months. But what happens after - do we just go back to it being a Top 10?

To WS's point, I don't think the issue of defining height would be too much of a problem except in rare cases where it makes the difference between making the list or not, though to be fair we've already had a couple during this boom: Shangri-La Vancouver and Ice I.

I could go either way.

Agreed... the bickering should be kept to private messages...

Let's talk about tall buildings under construction instead. For instance, 1 tower on the list is topped out, Ice East, and will be off the list shortly. The 2 newest towers on the list, Telus Sky and 488 University are in site prep, as is Massey Tower, and we could all argue about whether they are actually U/C or not. Stantec and Brookfield are still doing foundation work. 10 York is beginning to rise above the Gardiner, and across the street the Harbour Plaza twins seem to be in limbo. And the star of the show, 1 Bloor, has just passed the halfway mark and is steadily rising day by day.
Also, Eau Du Soleil will knock 488 University off the list soon, and Massey will be knocked off by 45 Bay later in the year, but it may stay on the list because of Ice E finishing up.

I am in favour of keeping the list as is, no need to fiddle with it now. It may stay all 200 metre towers for quite some time, or it may not. New towers will join the list in time, ones that have been proposals for quite some time, and possibly others that are so new we don't even know about them yet. Time will tell...
