Outstanding white water rafting is to be had on la riviere rouge. Done it four times, and can't wait to repeat.

^^ A very nice interchange. A little intimidating when you first experience it, but after a couple of runs through it is easy to navigate.

^Traffic circles on offramps work really well in my experience.
That shot reminds me of lots of the freeway interchanges/exits in the Spanish highway system. Kept things going really smoothly most of the time for me!

They had the official opening today for the Highway One Gateway Project in NB.

http://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/news/news_release.2012.10.0991.html

The entire 240 km of NB Highway 1 from the US border to River Glade (near Moncton), where it joins the TCH (NB Highway 2) is now completely divided.

It should be noted that Highway 2 is also completely divided (about 500 km), except for about 3 km at the Quebec border.....

^Oooh so now people from Halifax can drive to the shopping malls in Bangor without having to see anything but taillights and trees.

They are currently upgrading the section at the Quebec border right?

Is there any work going on along Highway 7 between SJ and Freddy?

Also are there plans to upgrade Highway 16 at all?

Well, once you hit the US border at Calais you get deposited on state route 9, which is a narrow, winding back country road and have to drive another 90 minutes through the wilderness to get there - but yes.

The hold up at the Quebec border had to do with the NB and QC governments having to decide on a final allignment where Route 2 will meet the new divided section of the 185, but yes - work is now underway and will be completed by 2014.

They put in a new bypass around Welsford, but aside from that, no more work is planned on this section.

I presume you mean Route 11 to Miramichi. The provincial government has scaled back their plans. They have secured the complete right of way all the way to the Miramichi, but current plans are only to divide the segment between Bouctouche and the interchange with the 15 at Shediac.

If you really mean Route 16 between Aulac & the Confederation Bridge, then nope - no new work is planned.

The big missing piece now is an east-west highway in Maine that goes from St. Stephen to Sherbrooke via Bangor. It would be in the best interests of all Atlantic provinces to help Maine pay for that segment.

The infamous Kenmount Road. The backbone of suburban sprawl in St. John's.

Here is a video I made 2 weeks ago for fun.

It goes from 200th St along the #1 to New Westminster, so you can see a lot of the progress on the highway 1 project.

the second half is driving through New West so it gives you an idea of the urban suburban fabric of Metro-Vancouver.

Set it to 480 for better quality

Northern Ontario politicians are calling for Highway 11 to be converted to 4-lane freeway from its current freeway terminus in North Bay, up to Temiskaming Shores. While I agree with this, I think priority should be on full-freeway status in and around Barrie (instead of the current Right In - Right out) and ultimately renamed Highway 411.

I feel that a freeway to a town of 10,000 would get little use. is there many big industries up there or something?

And the upgrading of Hwy 11 to make it Hwy 411 is top priority in my opinion as well. probably because i drive from Washago to Just past Bracebridge to get to my cottage a lot.

Highway 11 should be a 4-lane freeway from Barrie to North Bay the same way Highway 69 should be from Barrie to Sudbury. Both are getting upgraded, so its just a matter of time.

there are only rough plans, with no funding to upgrade the portion between barrie and gravenhurst. It is currently a Freeway, but it has stores that you can turn directly onto the road. the two directions are separated, has interchanges at most public roads, and I believe the speed limit is 90 km/h.

Hwy 11 north of North Bay has to be pretty close to the last of the priorities for widening in this province.

This will never happen. Not enough traffic to make it worthwhile. Wouldn't twinning Highway #17 from North Bay to the Ottawa area make more sense?

I would agree. In fact, if you divided the 17 between Sault Ste. Marie & Ottawa and pecked away at dividing the highway between Thunder Bay & the Manitoba border, this would go a long way towards completing the national highway system.
