city of edmonton "missing middle" infill design competition - as much as i hate not winning, this was pretty special for us:



in a competition that was only supposed to have the jury award 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, to have the jury decide that there was also a project that deserved an "honorable mention" is pretty special.

kudos to rpk architects, mcelhanney consulting services and synergy projects for proving that hard work and commitment does get the recognition it deserves.

none of the ones i liked won...

although looking over the pdfs again the 1st place design does seem incredibly practical and build-able.

thanks Harrison - it was a good team and they all worked hard.

we were also pleased to be part of the only judges' award that was given to a team with an edmonton architectural firm (not that the judges knew that at the time as everything was done completely blind)...

Devil is in the details - but it looks promising.
The City webpage states "Approved rezoning and plan amendment in Clifton Place area west of 125 Street NW and south of 102 Avenue NW in the Westmount neighbourhood." Really? And here I always thought that Glenora was the community lol.

Glenora starts on the west side of Groat Ravine and the southern portion of Westmount lies between the east side of the Ravine and 124 Street.

^A bit of value engineering detracted from the original rendering, but still not a bad design.

it reminds me of one if those old windows 3.11 (?) screen savers with the never ending plumbing pipe being connected in random multi-coloured patterns cascading across your screen no purpose but amusement.
