For Multicultural Week, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is profiling some of its officers who came from away.
Here is the Constabulary's graduating class of 2013 on the steps of the former Parliament:
And here's the first guy they profiled, Charley Torres (he's from Cuba; his wife is from here, and his two sons were born here).
"The past 7 1/2 years in Canada have been a huge adjustment. I came from a country where there was very little choice, you survived on what you had and that's it. My first time ordering a Subway sandwich here was overwhelming. I never knew so many choices could exist! I had no idea how to use a debit or visa card, that water could run so hot from a shower or how sweet a dessert could be. I think in some way I am still adjusting to life here and I encounter challenges often. Joining the RNC it was the best decision I could have made." - Constable Charley Torres
