A parking garage would be an eyesore not to mention it would bring too much traffic into which should be a nice public area. That corner would actual be great for a unique, nice looking building.

On there plans they did have 3 level buildings that would match other Downtown Commercial/Office buildings, and the Commercial/Residential buildings on Main Street so I do think they hope someone will build something like that Unless it was like previous plans in Downtown, and people went overboard on the drawings.

A parking garage on Parcel "B" would be a tragedy of the highest order. This land will be the highest profile development opportunity in the city once the events centre opens. It will also front on Ian Fowler Plaza, which will be the main public gathering spot in the downtown area. A parking garage definitely does not belong there.

This flyby animation shows a tall building in the background, which would be located on Parcel "B". This is what the city wants............

View from the top of the events centre.

source: Mayor Dawn Arnold's Facebook page.

I believe this photo may have been taken from one of the bar patios (accessible off the suites level, and one level up from the club lounge)

November Construction Update:

PROJECT BY NUMBERS
-  All ten bowl main roof trusses are installed.
-  The main concourse level will house ten concession areas.
-  Fourteen tunnel entrances allow access from the concourse and event level to the seating area.
-  Over 2,600 tonnes of steel have been installed to date.
-  During peak event operations, the ventilation system will provide 3.2 million liters of treated air per minute to the bowl, offering premium air quality to the spectators.
-  The bowl main ventilation ductwork is 1.8m (approx. 6 feet) in diameter.
-  To date, over 71,000 man hours have been worked on the site.
-  There are approximately 110 people working onsite daily.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE FACILITY
WHERE ARE WE?
– Approximately 20% of the bowl roofing has been installed.
– Structural steel work will be completed in November.
– The upper bowl liner panel is being installed on the north side of the building facing Main St. This will be covered with insulation and siding panels in the coming months.
– Aluminum glass framing is being installed on the plaza side and on the main entrance side.
– The installation of the precast bleachers (or seating steps) is complete.
– With the installation of the bleachers and roof trusses now completed, the big red crane will be leaving the site in November.
– Interior partitions are being framed for washrooms and concession areas on the west (Sobeys) side of the concourse level.
– All concrete floor slabs on the concourse, suite and press levels are completed except for the south (VIA Rail) side of the building where the crane exited the building.
– The Downtown Centre construction project is currently on schedule.

WHAT IS PLANNED
FOR THE NEXT 4 WEEKS?
- Aluminum glass framing and glass installation will continue on the plaza and Main St. entrance side of the facility.
- Structural steel will be completed in November.
- Roofing will continue to be installed on the bowl and concourse levels.
- Metal siding liner panel will continue to be installed on the bowl perimeter.
- Masonry façade will be completed on the east (plaza) side.
- Water and sewer work will continue on the Highfield Street extension on the south (Via Rail) side of the building.
- Covering and temporary winter heat will be installed on the west side of the building to keep crews working through the winter.
- Masonry work will begin on the interior of the event (bottom) level.
- Electrical, plumbing, ventilation and sprinkler contractors will continue to install services throughout the facility.

INTERESTING FACTS
1) The concourse level is open from the top of the main stairwell and down the east (plaza) side of the building allowing for unobstructed views of the event floor.
2) The suite level has direct access to the club lounge and concessions.
3) Two rooftop patios will be accessible via the suite level. These patios will offer spectacular views of the plaza and the east view of the downtown area.
4) The centre score clock is planned to recess completely into the roof trusses allowing unobstructed ceiling height of 60’.

Personal note - the new events centre will be so far beyond the current coliseum, it won't even be funny - just spectacular.

I imagine you're correct in assuming a commercial podium with residential/condos on top. I'm curious if the city would prefer two floors of commercials of restaurants/banks/stores/whatever or if they'd prefer a shorter podium. Whatever the decision I think it'll be important for them to be at least 8 storeys in height to complement the added height that the Events Centre is bringing. One or two 8-10-12 storey towers on that corner on Parcel B would bring some much needed density to that area and really fill in a big hole both in street presence and in skyline. It would add to the overall street presence of Main Street provided the podium is designed correctly. This is where things like street presence, setback, and overall design features are important. I'd imagine we would want to avoid suburban style developments (say, a small parking lot or grassy area fronting Main Street) as much as possible.

The drawback with a parking Garage in some cases that there is only one way in and one way out and that would tick off people if they want to make a quick exit after the game.

A very poorly designed parking garage is one with only one exit and one entrance.

"Two rooftop patios will be accessible via the suite level. These patios will offer spectacular views of the plaza and the east view of the downtown area."

Wouldn't the construction of 8-10-12 story towers on parcel B kind of defeat this purpose?

Indeed.

But you will still have a view over Ian Fowler Plaza, and although your view towards the eastern horizon will be partially blocked, what you will be able to see will be the new urban face of Moncton.........

Most recent drone video of the events centre. It looks like it was done in the last 1-2 weeks:

A couple of photos of the Events Centre from earlier today.

Now that the building is essentially enclosed and the crane will soon be dismantled, I imagine we won't see nearly the same flurry of photo updates as we have had over the last six months or so.

Nice. For future updates it might be nice if the city could set up a wide angle webcam inside the bowl of the centre. And/or one of the main entrance halls, just so we can get an inside view for the curious.

Funny, with all the crappy, poorly-rendered previews we saw of this thing, I was really underestimating this exterior. My initial thought was "good addition to downtown, not an eyesore", now it's "sweet looking building".

Saying this on the Canada forum would start a flamewar, but this should be second to (or tied with) the Currie Centre for athletic facility exteriors in the province.

That would certainly be nice but the city seems unduly concerned with people's alleged right not to be photographed, as seen in their low-resolution web cam and failure to have any close-up camera (plus I've heard city officials say this is a big fear of theirs.)
PS there is no right not to be photographed in a public place in Canada, the supreme court has repeatedly said.
Oh well......

You can see where the retractable seating will be on the south side of the building.
