Also, according to the ABC the Georgia House approved tax credits for an upcoming expansion. I couldn't find anything.

Downtown DRC just got the plans. It's all internal to the structure. It's more of a reconfiguration of underused interior space. No exterior construction is planned.

Bridging the Connector in strategic locations is a smart idea where the terrain allows, but tunneling....not so much.

Buckhead is looking at capping 400 with a park around the Marta station. ~9 acres worth of new park capping 400.

http://buckheadview.com/2015/03/11/bcid-studying-new-buckhead-park-ga-400-marta/

Maybe if this goes through and is a huge success it can start the ball rolling on parts of the connector being capped.

That is just awesome.

Also - just thinking about the feasibility over the Connector: the grade is such in Midtown that northbound 75/85 could be capped, but southbound 75/85 north of 10th is almost at street-level for the most part. It would be extremely difficult to cap properly to connect Georgia Tech/Home Park with Midtown.

Buckhead really needs this!!!

From Today's Atlanta Business Chronicle
  • 2015 should see the start of the first substantial condo projects. Albeit size will likely only be in the 100 - 150 units. TPX Works, based in Atlanta, is rumored to be looking for intown sites.
  • Wood Partners presented it's plans to the Buckhead Development Review Committee for a 24 story tower by Phipps Plaza.

There have been several discussions in our office for a similar approach to capping the Connector in sections downtown....provide a balance of public park land and also allow for air rights to developers to build over the interstate and expand the borders of Midtown/Downtown and create more park space (mind you this adds the Federal entity versus GA 400 which is a state route).

The challenge is the funding source and whether you can have a suitable developer willing to take the risk to get a public-private partnership together to make it happen. I see Midtown pulling this off more around the 14th street bridge a la a former proposal to connect 15th street across the Connector as well with a park between the 14th and 15th street bridges.

Looks about right based on rendering - important to note that the street pictured would be a new stretch of 15th Street connecting to Spring!

Yes, that's AMLI Arts Center... I was waiting for someone to post this again since it kept getting broken the first time and I never got to see it... nothing new design-wise but a better quality rendering.

It will be nice *if* it gets built, but I'm starting to wonder. With AMLI behind it I expected it to happen quickly, but unless I've missed something it seems to have gone quiet.

I definitely think it is going to happen. There was a recent article (can't remember where I read it) where AMLI's Managing Director stated they are working on a $450 Million pipeline of projects for Atlanta and he also went on to say all of the financing is in place.

::As part of this first phase, the consultant will also be expected to facilitate a visioning/brainstorming session with the client team, which will include representatives
from Midtown Alliance, MARTA, ARC and other stakeholders to identify project goals,
objectives, and potential concepts (and critical success factors) for the enhancement
efforts.::

Essentially these were more or less envisioning a framework/concept for "facelifts" for the stations. Much has to do with securing financing/grant money for these short-term projects. Also now that MARTA is seeking to sell air rights above much of these in-town stations means a complete overhaul of these stations that could possibly null these concepts completely say someone wanted to put a high-rise above them.

From the Zoning Review Board meeting: Atlantic Station plans to develop the surface parking at 17th and State. The project will be a 7-story, 210,000 sq ft office building with 10,000 sq ft of ground floor retail and--you'll like this--no parking, pending approval. The adjacent park will remain.

Soil testing and clearing has already begun, so it appears they want to move fast with this one.
