They mention solar. This will be right beside the new solar farm, but it really does not matter where the charging power comes from just that it is available at peak usage times. There is at least 100x more wind power than solar right now.

They do not indicate the cost, but I imagine it is costly.

20 megawatt hours (20,000 kWh) would be the equivalent of 244 Tesla Model Y vehicles @ 82 kWh each. Once electric vehicles make up a sizeable portion of the global fleet that's going to be a huge potential distributed battery network. With intelligent charging they could soak up excess renewable energy production even if they are just plugged into regular outlets.

That's not going to happen though (in terms of it being a distributed battery network for the grid), as the entire premise would be that those vehicles then feed electricity back into the grid. People won't accept that they go to bed with 100% charge and then leave for work with 70% charge.

Realistically I don't think Tesla will be in any dominant position in 5-10 years, anyway. Now that the major companies are ramping up their EV offerings, Tesla is likely going to fall back quite a ways. Yes, their cars are generally nice (though with many quality control issues), and they have pushed the tech and conversation forward...but if you can get a Toyota EV for 1/3 the price of a Tesla, then the Toyota is going to be more popular.

The most impactful electric vehicle won't be a car anyways - it'll be ebikes, and it's already happening.

They will if they can buy the off-peak power for 10 cents and sell it back for 15 cents. Its a good way to help pay for your EV. Peak here is always 4-9pm which is when the sunshine starts to wane and wind often dies down.

I know nothing of the history of this project - How complete is the building? At $183K per door, that's a good price if the suites are pretty much finished.

I just noticed the bridge deck going from Albert Street to highway 11 is missing as I rarely go that way. That one has been in rough shape for many years.

Finally some foresight. That bridge gets hit every year.

It's not very complete and I understand that pigeons have enjoyed it being vacant for years. $183k/door would be rich based on how much work is still required but it sits on 5+ acres of land so lots of potential to increase density/add more doors.

The company I work for did the mechanical rough in for that place, after we weren't paid, we went back in and cut it all out. Lots of work to do on the inside. I swear it would almost be better to demo it and start fresh, save the foundation perhaps

It's ridiculous.

I'm sure the residents who were so opposed to the cell tower are going to be thrilled to find out the city wants to up the traffic on Prince of Wales to get people around to Wascana Parkway.

When this came up with a previous council, they said it wasn't possible to add a northbound ramp off Assiniboine onto Ring Road because of the proximity to Arcola. It would be a collision of traffic merging northbound with traffic trying to exit onto the Arcola ramp. It also means that the bus routes likely lose their turnaround point west of the church to the ramp so they will cut stops off the route there which seem to be frequently used by Storey Manor residents.

They mention improved sidewalks and pathways, but anecdotally I know a number of people in the east end who want to bike to work but the complete lack of any direct access to downtown prevents that. Hopefully these improvements in conjunction with the crosstown bike route addresses this gap.

Also from the executive committee meeting:

Quote:
Councillor Landon Mohl moved that Executive Committee recommend that City Council:
1. Instruct the City Solicitor to prepare the necessary bylaw(s) to mandate automatic fire sprinkler systems installations in all newly constructed residential occupancies, including but not limited to apartments, condominiums, townhouses, rowhouses, sixplexes, fourplexes, duplexes and houses beginning January 1, 2023
http://reginask.iqm2.com/Citizens/Fi...79&Inline=True

This will certainly have an effect on residential construction and potential buyers if approved.

It will be really sad if these so called improvements come at the expense of a future BRT route on Arcola. The land is there now.
