Scary, particularly for a woman alone;

Woman shaken after EV charging feature stopped her from driving away from potential danger

An electric vehicle driver in Vancouver is sounding the alarm after a troubling confrontation in a parking garage on the city’s Downtown Eastside.

Before meeting friends for dinner on Monday night, Colleen Nitta decided to charge her ride inside a lot near East Hastings and Columbia streets, where she says a stranger tried to force his way into her car.

The 37-year-old told CTV News that she was inside her locked vehicle, trying to pay for the electric fuel, when she saw a man enter the parking garage by foot and pull a charger out from a car parked in front of hers.

When he started approaching her vehicle, she immediately called 911.

“While I was on the phone, he started trying to open my driver's side door. Then the backseat passenger door, the trunk…He kept forcefully trying to get into my vehicle without saying a word,” recalled Nitta.

She wasn’t able to drive away, since electric vehicles can’t be operated while they’re in the process of being charged....

Scary. What is CTV highlighting though? Gas cars can't drive away when being filled either. Sort of.

Hm, 'too scared to contribute pictures'? Is it too late to get a refund from Trump University for that "psychology degree"?

In the meantime, I still haven't got a picture of the tower crane on East Hastings, but you seem to be obsessing about it, so here's what it looks like.

I don't know why anyone would open a gallery or retail space with high-end items in that area.

Of course the violent suspect is released: can't expect anything less. Let's see who the suspect stabs next.

Nice.

Vancouver Police
@VancouverPD
#VPDScanner: On Friday morning, #VPD received a 911 call reporting a 36 y/o suspect had walked into an office on Keefer near Quebec St. and began assaulting a random female staff member. A 74 y/o man intervened and was also assaulted. VPD officers arrived within minutes and arrested the suspect. Both victims were treated by paramedics. #Charged

Looks like the community policing centre did end up opening at the old TD Bank inside of the Woodwards.

Quote:
The space is being leased from Westbank, which owns the Woodward’s building. The provincial government has promised a $1-million grant to lease the space over the next three years.

Vancouver’s other community policing centres, which are funded by the City of Vancouver but operated by non-profits, typically cost roughly $200,000 a year to operate. The Gastown-Hastings Crossing Centre is anticipated to cost closer to $350,000, according to deputy city manager Sandra Singh.
Maybe they can build a jail cell inside to hold shoplifters from the London Drugs.

Remember former Mayor (now Senator) Larry Campbell?

Former Vancouver mayor tapped to turn around troubled Downtown Eastside
Larry Campbell says desperately needed housing will be key to bringing change to the neighbourhood
Author of the article: Denise Ryan
Published Sep 29, 2025

Can former senator and ex-Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell turn things around in the city’s Downtown Eastside?

On Monday, Campbell publicly accepted a six-month appointment as adviser to the province aimed at finding solutions and improving the lives of people in the neighbourhood.

First and foremost, said Campbell, “I am not a czar.” Nor is he a “saviour” for the DTES....

....Campbell is the second DTES adviser appointed by Premier David Eby’s government. The first, Michael Bryant, was terminated by Eby in May after his consultancy contract came under fire for a lack of transparency.

Eby said he had hired Bryant because he wanted someone with “fresh eyes.”

Campbell may not have fresh eyes, but he was open about his compensation: $92,000 plus up to $10,000 in expenses....

I don't know what Larry can offer that will change things.

I think the general consensus that the only solution is involuntary care and there just is no resources for that. Eby just announced a couple hundred beds but reality, we need thousands.
