I had written it off as well. We were down in Buda where it was pretty dark, but I'd all but given up on it until we were getting ready to leave. I walked out, and it was pretty clear.

I snapped this, but I was having trouble because the moon kept moving, and I couldn't hold the camera still either since I was shivering.

I took this one about an hour later.

I just got back from my semi annual trek into downtown Austin and took a bunch of pics I'll be posting shortly. I have to do one at a time in edit mode because I can't, don't know how to send them all at one time. So the post will expand to a couple dozen or so pics when I'm done. My take aways from my visit...UT is bustling...hundreds, perhaps thousands of mostly students walking around everywhere, most of them good looking, but the streets around campus are terrible, which segways into Rainey where the streets are narrow and ridiculously undefined in terms of any sort of block pattern. DT is vibrant, sparkling, beautiful, densing up nicely, and is starting to feel like a large city. The JW Marriott is a city jewel that helps give Austin a major city vibe. The sidewalk amenities are awesome and the smell of the food wafting into my car window was amazing. Last time I was dt, they hadn't even poured the cement for the new library. Pictures to follow soon...

All pictures by me taken today. Sorry, they are not in order. The Marriott Courtyard is getting new colors, brown to grey. Enjoy.

That's an extensive update there. Work has all but stopped on 422 - and it was so close to finishing. It looks like an abandoned building in this photo:

Wait, has work legitimately stopped on that project? That's a huge deal if so and I'd be surprised nobody had picked up on it.

Work hasn't stopped, there is scaffolding covering the Southern half and masonry is going up VERY slowly.

Very nice update. Looking at our hotels, I can't help but think they must be part chameleon.

It looked abandoned from my vantage point, broken windows, weathered and torn and bubbling wall wrap. But then I saw a couple of workers working on the southern end. Close up it appears construction was halted or at the very least, slowed to the point that some work is deteriorating before getting finished out.

Anyone have an inside source on that one? It'd be interesting to see why it's slowed down so significantly...and why it's seemingly going to crap before it's even finished, haha.

There are a handful of workers there each day, but nowhere near the usual number for a project this size.

The backdrop to the main stage gets better every year it seems, except that one of my favorites, the 360, is mostly covered. This amazing fest belongs where it is, now there are nimby's who want it moved to COTA.

Wow, those drone-perspective shots are amazing! especially the second one, is that Bob Schneider? What an enormous crowd and a gorgeous scene.

Zilker Park really is where it belongs. It's so good for promoting the city. COTA is in the middle of no where. I really like the view of the hills. It's so moody. I can actually see those spotlights tonight from my backyard. They're directly overhead. I don't know why they're interested in my part of Austin.

I agree wholeheartedly. It belongs in Zilker - always. They can do other festivals at COTA, but ACL has a history and needs to maintain that history with the central part of the city. It brings much business to nearby restaurants, hotels, etc., too - something that would be lost in part if moved to COTA. Sure, people would still need hotels, but much of the other business wouldn't be helped nearly as much as it is now.

There are so many new big events that close down Zilker/Auditorium Shores, etc., so I can completely understand that the folks in the area don't want an event every weekend, but SXSW and ACL are anchors of Austin that need to remain downtown.
