No, Sunny Isles Beach is an indepedent city just like Miami Beach is. I wish Miami could count all of those buildings as part of its tally. That would make a nice list. In what capacity did you work on the building? Anyway, here are a few Met2 updates taken 1-2 weeks ago.

The final plan comprises four interconnected, terraced structures: an oblong ``Living Core'' containing the aquarium and a massive Gulf Stream tank, a striking new planetarium orb overlooking Biscayne Boulevard, and two squared-off wings in a ``V'' containing exhibition space, classrooms and cafes. These main structures would be set around a soaring, open-air atrium lined with terraces and shaded by a canopy punctured by skylights.

In South Florida’s most expensive office sale of 2010, the site for 1400 Biscayne Boulevard has been sold for $31.52 million.
The buyer is an affiliate of Miami-based developer Espacio USA. The site has approvals from the city of Miami to build 850 apartment units and 43,000 square feet of retail space on the site. The twin towers designed by Arquitectonica will be 64 floors and 58 floors, respectively.
The site is currently immediately north of the Arsht Performing Arts Center and will be served by two Metro mover stations

An investor group has purchased the site for Pointe at Brickell Village, at 1100 S. Miami Ave. (near Mary Brickell Village).
The site is approved for a 42-story, 442 foot mixed use building consisting of retail, residential and office space.

I work with the company that did the cladding for JO. I worked on the upper crown since it was more intricate compared the the rest of the building.

A $526 million extension of Metrorail to a transit hub just east of Miami International Airport is on track to be finished by April 2012, the second extension of the elevated heavy-rail train since the system was originally started in the 1980s, transit officials said Tuesday.

They provided the information to El Nuevo Herald in advance of a public meeting Tuesday night to celebrate the halfway mark in the construction of the 2.4-mile extension from Earlington Heights station to the Miami Intermodal Center now being built near MIA. From the MIC, passengers would reach MIA terminals via an automated train known as MIA Mover now being built.

The meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sheila Winitzer Central Administration Building, 3300 NW 32nd Avenue, drew residents, business owners and community leaders.

Miami-Dade Transit director Harpal Kapoor and other transit officials briefed the audience, telling it the project is on time and on budget and that completion is expected in April 2012. Previously, officials had only talked about finishing the project in the spring of 2012.

Is there a law mandating all buildings in the Miami area have to have the same generic, Miami, South Florida look? 1400 Biscayne may be nice and smooth but otherwise quite dull and more of the same. It must irk skyscraper fans down there that the greatest ever skyscraper that stylistically should have been built there is Aqua in Chicago. Oh and please resist the pressure to paint Herzog & de Meuron's garage white, there are other colors out there, you just have to imagine.

^ there is no law for a generic look in Miami and the towers were designed by Arquitectonica which is a premier firm worldwide. Perhaps you are not familiar with their work here in south Florida which is vastly different than what I posted above.

Oh I'm familiar with their work. They created perhaps Miami's most seminal residential projects in the early 80's (the Imperial, the Atlantis) and continue with good non-residential bldgs like the new Federal Courthouse in Miami, and they have designed a couple of recent condo/apt buildings here in San Francisco. My main comment is that aside from a few projects and architects like Oppenheim and Gonzalez it seems that almost every new building built in the last 5 - 6 years all have the same generic features, even Arquitectonica's, and for a city that basically tripled it's skyline Miami got numbers but not greatness. In the past 5 -6 years New York City has added some pretty architecturally impressive towers, Miami, I don't know. Oh and those early Arquitectonica buildings had not just cool design going for them but colors like red and blue, they were just pretty cool. Look I'm not a Miami hater, I was born in Florida and lived there for over 30 years, and yes Miami is definitely "the city" of Florida, but with all the money thrown out down there the last 6 or 7 years there could have been some really cool ass skyscrapers, (like the Lynx project) though the Espirito Santo Bldg is pretty nice, there should have more Espirito's and less 1400 Biscayne Blvd's.

The City of Miami Beach has teamed up with Decobike to debut its new system of public bicycle sharing and rental, scheduled to commence mid-December. The program will include an initial deployment of approximately 1,000 customized Decobikes and 100-plus automated stations located throughout the city of Miami Beach, though it is expected to expand to include an additional 600 bikes and three dozen more stations.

Nice. Can't wait to visit this once it's built. Miami has long needed a world-class art museum, considering its position as an international city. It likely won't have a very prominent collection for a while, but an impressive new facility will go a long way towards changing that. The Lowe Art Museum on the University of Miami's campus has long been home to S. Florida's most prominent collection (and will likely remain so for many years) and facility. The Lowe is really a gem, especially among university art museums. But Miami needed to create a cultural center in its urban core. I'm really happy the city is finally making real moves in the development of Museum Park.

Plans call for the new theater at the Metropolitan Miami complex to open by late 2012 or early 2013. It will join a Whole Foods, set for completion in 2013, and the already-open Met 1 residential tower, Wells Fargo Center office tower and JW Marriott Marquis and Hotel Beaux Arts.

Adding a multiplex is the latest step in making the area a place where people want to live, work and play. That's a dramatic change of scenery from 10 years ago, when fewer than 40,000 people lived downtown and there was a dearth of options compared to other cities with cosmopolitan credentials.

But the building boom added towering high-rise buildings with 23,000 units -- and the bust made those units more affordable for young professionals who wanted to live near their jobs. Now, 70,000 people live downtown, and the Miami Downtown Development Authority expects another 10,000 to move in by 2014.
