Some more fuel for a Costco expansion into Sydney

The locals flooding the comments section certainly shows how badly it's wanted in the area as well.

http://interstratics.com/costco/2013....html#comments

Note: this is just a market evaluation from a 3rd party with no ties to Costco itself. Nothing official has appeared on the Costco site to date, though rumours continue.

Headlines for Mar 24, 2014

Trying to get my subscription going, but for some reason it stalled out during the "processing" phase. Going to give it a couple of days to show on my card, and if not I'll try again. The only change that will happen with that, is I'll be able to give a little synopsis with each headline.

Apr 3, 2014 Headlines

Waterfront 30 year vision was released. Took a look at some of the renderings, looks decent, but would be nice to see some more variation in architecture portrayed (note: this is a concept plan so the actual product will vary). Also would like to see a more urban feel to it, it seems a little resort-like for my taste, but again, the actual will vary. Overall, I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the report.

I guess it's a little bit resort-like but it would be a very attractive setting for cruise ship passengers and give a great first impression of Sydney and Cape Breton. I really like it on first glance, and feel like there's a lot of potential for this project. The boardwalk is a nice feature for the city as it is, this would obviously kick it up a notch and breathe a more life into the Esplanade, which I've always felt was underdeveloped considering it's location.

There are a lot of points I like in the plan, especially the density and most of the heights. The more I look at it, the more I like it. The green spaces are a nice feature as well. The general massing is good, and the architecture is growing on me for the most part, though there is still some that I would like if it changed.

I'll have a look at the written report if it is posted, but from what the article mentioned, there seems to be a bit too much emphasis on public investment in the plan. There's definitely room for that, but I agree more with Chernin that private investment should and likely will be the driving force behind development of the area.

There is definitely a lot of potential for the plan area, and it is far underdeveloped. It will be nice if it realizes its potential through this plan.
