Wilmington, Delaware -- is on pace to break its homicide record, sadly. 16 homicides currently after a 17 yr old girl was gunned down.

Thus far this year, 16 homicides and 68 shooting incidents for a city of 72,000.

Columbus is at 42. 29 at this time last year. Not a good year, and it is getting alot of publicity.

I cannot find any info that is updated for Indianapolis. Does anyone know where I can get updated info? I can only find up through the beginning of April. Nothing is updated being updated.

Detroit is at 58 YTD. If the year ends with a similar rate as the first 4 months, the city will have a historic low for homicides not seen in many decades.

I don't know. My source is the Toronto Police News Releases page, where it says the last homicide, #17, occurred on April 26th (although the report thereof is rather confusing with its dates). Maybe there's one the police don't know about.

Edit: never mind. It looks like #18 occurred several days before #17. Don't know what's going on there.

I was wrong-it is at 45 Ugh. And it was 106 for all of last year. This is a major turn in the wrong direction and I suspect the heroin epidemic is fueling this. Also having something like 5 times this number in OD deaths-another Ugh.

Except, of course, that the winter and early spring months aren't representative of the whole year. It'll pick up as it gets warm.

I live outside the city and the vast majority of the murders are committed in a few bad areas and among people who are involved in criminal activity or at least near where it is happening. Alot of drug trafficking deaths.

For the most part as long as you stay away from people engaged in criminal activity(and the places where they engage in such activity) you will be ok.

Still there are innocent people who get caught up in the crossfire or become targets though. I am pretty sure it is the rise in the heroin epidemic (and for every homicide victim there have been around 5 OD deaths here...which is disgusting).
