If they want people to go to the Surrey City Centre, make it sufficiently attractive that people want to go there, not by imposing an unnecessary transfer. I am sure that there will be plenty of people needing to transfer anyways to local routes. But your trunk service should be as simple to use as possible. We see this stupidity here in Ottawa when they split up the North-South route into multiple segments, each requiring a transfer. All this does is discourage people from using transit.

Eglinton Crosstown (Yonge Station Area)

Alright, now I'm not sure when the last Eglinton Crosstown update was, but here's an update on the two T.B.M.'s

(Tunnel-Boring-Machines) that will soon be taken out of their now bored tunnels. With this however, comes a huge headache for anyone driving in the area, as a fair part of the intersection is closed for the excavation and removal of both T.B.M.'s via creating two fairly sized holes within the intersection)

Here's a small update on what this looks like for the area as of yesterday:

ANNDDD..a small update on the demolition of the original bus terminal for Eglinton Station:

I thought they would remove the Tunnel Boring Machines from the bus lot, not the intersection.

That seems to be a recipe for headaches.

Apparently the tunnel breakthrough has happened in Ottawa. They're expecting to finish the tunnel excavation completely before March. Full steam ahead! Broo ha ha, to Narnia and the North!

With Ottawa and Toronto combined something like 22-24 km of new underground electrified rail transit coming online in the next few years.

I still can't believe they will extract the Tunnel Boring Machines out of this intersection. Maybe in pieces perhaps . This intersection is so busy, and you can see the 194 meter E Condo Tower Under-Construction at the side of the picture. There is another tower of 191 meters U/C beside the red building at the intersection. This LRT /Subway hub is already adding so much density, quite incredible!

The first Phase 2 map has been dropped for Waterloo Region's LRT. This is the initial proposal for the extension to Cambridge.

I assume the Eglinton station will be built under the intersection so it would need to be dug up anyways.

The K-W portion will be a going concern soon, and will be a test-bed to see how LRT works out in the Region. Adding to it shouldn't be a challenge, especially if the population booms as predicted.

Wow, that is a huge project for such a little city. I can see a big population boom for KW because of this. Any Toronto hipster looking to move to Hamilton, might already be reconsidering.

Today's Update (February 11th)

Another quick turn to Yonge and Eglinton, where the intersection is pretty limited with the construction for the Crosstown LRT project and the refurbishment of Eglinton Station into a full-on inter-change station:

Don't ask anyone from Cambridge that. It's a bit of a sore spot.

In a nutshell:
- Waterloo Region proposed LRT but limited the first phase to only extend between Kitchener and Waterloo due to cost concerns. Cambridge was to get BRT-ish service in the first phase. They were not happy.

it doesn't really make sense to extend it to Cambridge now, yet alone for the first phase. We are talking about a 500k metro with a 30km LRT line. Even the high ridership K-W part is only expected to get around 20,000 passengers daily.

crazy to think there that there is still 4 years to go for the Crosstown. Its been under construction for so long already it seems. 2021 is going to be here before we know it though, and it will be open in all its glory.

True but displays smart long term planning. Population and development gravitate to transportation corridors. This is the first step in stitching Cambridge to KW. The sooner it happens the better off both will be.

I disagree. There's really no reason for cities that small to be building rapid transit. Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver were all at around a million when they started building theirs. It may assist in inducing urban development along the corridor, but at the cost of developing a more comprehensive transportation network region-wide.
