Sorry for the crappy iphone photo:

They've squared off the top level of the rotunda now, and started installing the steel framing to support the stone wall.

Also, on the Howe st. side, they've installed some steel framework and have added more glass curtain. No photos of that though..

Thanks.
The studs installed show that they'll still have that overhang above where the Nordstrom sign will be.

Pics by me today:

The reflections on the protruding part are a bit distracting:

Note the patchwork of spandrel panels between the supports for the second skin:

Does this project still just have the one bank of elevators in the NW corner to serve the office component, or has an additional bank recently been added to the design elsewhere on the floorplate? I've been hearing rumours about the additional bank, given the likelihood of having to multi-tenant the floors.

The Cadillac Fairview website just shows the one bank - otherwise they'd need another elevator lobby eating into Nordstrom - but agreed that long hallways between tenants would not be nice.

That's my concern also, but I've heard chatter that to score the MT lease, they had to punch in another elevator. All gossip at this point.

I walk by every day and I hate how cheap that protruding box looks like. I am disappointed in the cheap-looking materials that they chose to use there.

Protruding boxes seem a Vancouver specialty. Do other cities have as many?

I could see another bank of elevators mid-block on Robson next to the emergency stairs shown in this floorplan below.
That would also provide more direct access to the Law Courts.

There will be only the one elevator core. No sense in creating two physical addresses for the building, let alone the cost of a second lobby.

And the lease is signed with Nordstrom and construction commencing imminently, no ability to ram another elevator core through their space.

Is there a reason they chose not to put the elevators in the middle?

Of course, how would you get to the office lobby from the street?

Not many have a Nordstrom as their base. That would cut straight through the main floor of Norstrom. Don't think they would be very amenable to that.

It's a fitting touch for a building that obviously doesn't aim to look glamorous. The whole thing is a disappointment.

I agree that it isn't elegant or glamorous. However, to keep everything in perspective .... just remember what was there before ....

I really don't get why some of you think this building looks so bad.

THANK YOU. I'm with you. I like what they're putting together.
