But I can't imagine the same scenario for a health museum. Will people just randomly decide to attend? Plus, the CDC already has a health museum, and it has low attendance.

But, if they can raise the money and build it, good for them. Maybe it will be a smaller museum that doesn't need a lot of attendance to stay afloat. I just would hate to see a new museum open and then close a few years later due to lack of attendance.
i agree, i think it's a weird idea. however, 'bodies', which is the most abhorrent display of morbidity and amorality i've ever seen passed off as an 'exhibit' (the bodies are chinese prisoners who died under 'mysterious reasons' sold to the taxidermist who started 'bodies') has had an incredible success.

if people will go see that, maybe there's hope for a much more reasonable 'health museum'.

There is a wonderful museum in DC - the armed forces pathological museum (not open to the public , just medical professionals) that is most fascinating. There is a whole collection of cadavers and photos of suicides by various methods as well as an extraordinary pathological collection of diseased organs. Perhaps that would be attractive - although hardly a museum of health.

I never knew how much stock to put into the rumors about this health museum. This was initially announced during the bubble years when everything was going gang-busters. There was the Museum of Patriotism that moved from near the Center for Puppetry Arts to the COPA area and there were rumors of a Pirate museum and a permanent Titanic museum. There was also talk of a Madame Tussauds.

We should probably be thankful that most of this never saw the light of day. I'm all for more attractions, but we don't need a bunch of junk.

13th and W. Peachtree St.

Activity on a surface lot bordered by W. Peachtree, 13th Street, and Peachtree Walk. Large trees are being removed and many others look marked for same. There are erosion fences in place.

Property listed in tax records as being owned by Selig and I seem to recall this being a future phase of 12th & Midtown.

Hopefully they are not just paving the unpaved portion of the parking lot.

Unfortunately, given their stated intentions to start two projects this year elsewhere in Midtown, I doubt this will be for anything other than paving.

Apparently Simon Properties has filed for permits for its Lenox apartment tower.

35 stories, 440 units.

this will be the future of malls. if they are to survive, they need to become areas for people to live and work in, and not just shop in. gone are the days of people driving 15 miles to spend 6 hours in a mall.

I found out that the permit only calls for grading an seeding of the abandoned lot. At least it not being paved. In the process, I found a couple of projects that may be moving forward.

Seventh has filed for demolition and building permits.

1138 Peachtree has filed for building permits for "Yoo on Peachtree" with Balfour Beatty as the general contractor. This is a bit surprising given that they were supposed to start the 13th street tower this year.

I agree.

Remember when Lenox added a hotel and an office tower back in the 80s and folks were all pumped about mixed use? Hard to believe that was nearly 30 years ago.

i have a lot of childhood memories there. i don't really like what they've done in the remodel, but maybe that's just nostalgia for you.

I would agree that an average mall will probably need to reinvent itself in the coming years, but Lenox is not your average mall. I don't see it going into survival mode in our lifetimes...it's way too popular.
