A big thanks to SignallHillHiker for showcasing St. John's on the national scene and giving the rest of Canada a glimpse of our unique city......

Ugh, I'm right rotted. I tried to get this exact panorama, but mine didn't turn out. Fantastic shot!

Here's a shot of Victoria taken by me from about 20 miles away.

Beautiful shot, Phil! The landscape there is spectacular, obviously, and I love the density of the buildings. I also really love it when you can see land in the background of coastal city shots. It makes the picture more comfortable to look at, in my opinion.

Wow, that 4th shot is really impressive, one of the best density shots of St. john's I've ever seen!

There seems to be something of a lack of Victoria on here lately.

Thanks, North!

Well, I always wanted to photograph the city from Southcott Hall but was afraid of sneaking in there. Turns out I shouldn't have been... I went through this elaborate back alley emergency exit route to the staircase to the top but, when I just walked through the main halls/out the main entrance on my back down, no one stopped me.

So, here it is, the view of downtown from Southcott Hall. Not as impressive as I'd hoped because the Johnson Building hides the rest of the skyline perfectly, but still pretty good:

Ooh, I love the panoramas, especially the last one. I don't know Halifax that well (lived in Cole Harbour for only a few months before giving up and moving on) but I know it enough - and I can't orient myself looking at these photographs at all. I have no idea where, for example, the Citadel is - except, I assume, on the left side of the last panorama?

It can only really be seen in the two last ones as the others show areas too far to the right or are too zoomed out. In the second from last it is far left and in the last one it's center left. In both it is marked by the two white polls sticking up, one taller than the other. These are basically ship masts used as flag polls on top of the hill.

Those St. John's shots are beautiful, outside of BC, the Maritimes and Newfoundland look to be where I would be most comfortable living in Canada (Ocean and landscape has a big part to lay in that, hehe). I need to visit St. John's one day soon, maybe a will try and get out there next summer.

EDIT: Sorry, I see you changed which picture you quoted, ha!

It's being re-clad. The finished product will be caramel plastic panels with charcoal fake brick to the height of the scaffolding (not visible in that particular shot, but it is on others). So, not great... but it's better than red brick, I hope.

So... my father was out chatting with the neighbour and he happened to be throwing out a tripod. He brought it to me, to see if I wanted it. I thought he must have talked to Mom because just yesterday I told her to take it easy this Christmas and just get me a cheap, second-hand tripod.

So, of course, I had to rush out and test it tonight!

A few from some of our other beautiful, Atlantic Canadian cities...

In the description of this one of Saint John, the photographer describes it as Canada's San Francisco. Now we're up to three Atlantic Canadian cities saying this, ha! Any others want to join in?
